Only way he gets hooked is if we see blow outs again...

As long as we are losing pretty and are hard to beat week in week out whilst winning some games along the way then CC will be in here in 2024.

Gould's job to sort out CC's front row.

Didn’t Ivan Cleary have a shit first year before turning things around at the Panthers the following year.

My point is things can change, and for the sake of everyone I hope so.
Exactly. People forget what Ivan ‘didn’t do’ at the tigers

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...d/news-story/3838181b251943175f97954b878fe5c8 …. There’s no sugar-coating it, things haven’t gone to plan at the Bulldogs under Cameron Ciraldo, who arrived as a rookie coach to plenty of fanfare.

General manager Phil Gould’s appointment of Ciraldo ahead of the 2023 season was supposed to turn things around at Belmore, but instead they fell three spots on the ladder this year to finish 15th.

Canterbury, who haven’t played finals since 2016, went backwards in 2023 as their defence fell off a cliff. They went from allowing 23.9 points in 2022 to 32 per game in 2023.

The team that wins the premiership usually concedes less than half of that, typically around 15 points per game, with the Panthers allowing just 13 on average in 2023.

The Bulldogs also underperformed in attack, with stars Matt Burton, Josh Addo-Carr and Viliame Kikau all struggling to fire consistently.

Ciraldo now has another star recruit in Stephen Crichton and a similarly poor campaign in 2024, especially with those names at his disposal, will put the coach under immense pressure.

But for the club to seriously consider sacking Ciraldo for Bennett, they’d likely have to also march Gould whose rivalry with Bennett goes back decades.

The duo squared off as opposing coaches in several heated State of Origin series and Gould has also claimed Bennett reneged on a handshake deal to coach the Roosters in 2007.
Surprise surprise….a Fox media article putting heat on the Dogs.

Lol @ strong squad… give us two origin quality middles and that might be accurate.

If Ciro gets this team a top 10 finish, that’s pretty good considering the rosters at other clubs and our lack thereof middles.

Anyone who sees our pack and says We will push for the 8 is optimistic AF. Hard to know if Ciro can coach when we have the worst middles in the comp
Spot on, people thinking we’re a top 8 chance aren’t realistic…would advise them to take a look at the other 16 NRL rosters.

As we speak, probably only the Dragons have a roster on par (or weaker) than ours… most other rosters are clearly in better shape… on paper, we should be thereabouts 15/16th but I think Ciro gets us around 12/13th if the players buy into what he’s trying to cultivate.

He finished 10th in his first season back at Penrith.
Then had a few more extra additions to the playing group like critta and made the grandfinal the next year.

Cleary Senior is a myth…. He had a squad (at the Tigers) around the quality of what Ciro had and did sweet fu<k all… in fact, he threw the towel in and gave up on them…. Ciro is in the fight and isn’t backing down from the challenge.

Apart from what’s been said above Ciraldo is on a 5 year deal. There’s simply no way he’s getting punted in Year 2 of that deal - it would cost the club a fortune let alone undermine a strategy approved by the board in 2022 when he was appointed. With no election and the board staying put until at least February 2026, Ciraldo will be given well into 2025 before any thought may be considered to change tack. The scribblers and haters are clearly short of off season ideas to dribble about.

I don’t think CC will be punted but if he doesn’t get the results I can’t see him staying for 5 years.

With the strong squad Gould has put together there is a very good chance Ciraldo won’t be here by round 26 next year if he doesn’t perform. Early favourites would be Potter if Ciraldo gets sacked, there’s rumblings of Bennett in 2025 but that would require Gould to put aside his Ego
If we get pumped 50+ leb style which is a genuine fear of mine (more realistic would be alot of 28-6 type scorelines) Bennett would be EXACTLY what the Dr ordered for 2/3 years.
He will get the right players and steady us, and the turnstile sterile attitude that our club has adopted recently would probably give way for a more personal, motivating and stable experience for the boys.

How is it well said?
Cleary bought a bunch of players then left as they were getting close to an 8th spot.

We will never know what would have eventuated if he hung around.

The criticism tigers people have of Ivan was he got off the bus, not his coaching.

100% agree. And he should be given that time as well. 2025 we will have much better middles and if the team isn't performing then they may look to move him on. People forget CC is young.

It’s simply too early to say either way and hence this article and thread are pointless. The board were clearly playing the long game by approving a 5-year appointment to begin with - and Ciro coming a year earlier than originally planned adds fuel to the fire. Yep, I know the #ClownCrew and other haters will say Gus made that bit up when 2023 went pear shaped but he told us to measure our expectations for 2023 at the AGM in February - before a ball was kicked.

Whoever wrote that bullshit needs to do some proper research, Bennett won’t be coaching us anytime soon, more likely never. Following his successs with the Dolphins the NRL has already spoken to him about being the Coach of the next Qld team admitted to the NRL. Most likely the Western Clydesdales playing out of a redeveloped Berghofer Stadium in Toowoomba. Exactly the role Bennett likes, a clean sheet with total control.

Always a Bulldog
