Funnily enough that hasn’t really been a factor - we’ve largely hovered between 18-22k members who have mostly been loyal no matter what. The Scabbitohs lead the NRL though with 30k+ but what’s telling is no NRL club comes within cooee of most AFL clubs with the likes of Collingwood having 100k+ members.
The scabbitohs folded the club before they had hardly any members, it’s only that they are a top 8 team for now they get 30k+.
Actually no, in 2006 it was the members who decided to sell to Rusty and co and it was split down the middle. Soufs have always had big member numbers even when they were rubbish. I’d love to see the Dogs go 30k+ but we haven’t to date, even when we were making GF’s in 2012 and 2014. Hopefully it improves.
