That's only a problem because Napa is on 650k. Nothing to do with Smith. There is nothing wrong with Smith being on a 150k contract.

You plan for 2021 and beyond now... by the looks of it we're retaining everyone we want moving forward now and recruiting afterwards. He's a good depth option. I don't know what you're watching. It's just above minimum wage. There are other Prop/potential Locks that need to be moved on before him. Sue and Ogden to name a couple.

Yes, you're right regarding the purpose, because the club is not carrying as much freight/debt.
But what debt is left must be paid before they could get serious about what people like to refer to as 'marquee' players.
Approx 20% of the 2020 cap is for players either no longer at the club or on the sideline. More than half of that is for Foran alone.
