Something to think about ..

3 games before Flanagan was flicked in first grade, KO was moved from 6 to 7 in Cup, whose decision was that … was it to see how he’d perform in that position ?? ..

When the decision was finally made to flick Flanagan it was Burton to 7 KO to 6 .. did they not think KO cut it as that was an odd move ..

Who was pulling those strings ..

We were going to lose that match all along. Having origin players out made it worse.
Yeah, it’s weird huh, we were never going to win that game and the score is what I expected.

Take your starting halfback, edge back rower, lock,
front rower and winger out of any team and they will struggle, let alone a team already lacking middles and experience.

Dude everyone needs to realise it’s not just that easy to go sign multiple premier forwards for a fair market price, over every other team who wants the same thing. Then a halfback on massive dollars (who magically needs to be off contract) then to pick living in western Sydney over the Gold Coast for example. It’s very unreasonable. If it wasn’t for Gus we wouldn’t have Kikau, Burton (extended), Critta coming, Xerri coming, Preston who was scouted under Gus or Ciraldo (who is the reason on the Penrith guys signed in the first place). Give the man some time boys, these threads are so tedious lol

Gould's media commitments aren't the reason he hasn't signed a halfback and three forwards, there are no high quality players in this position that are coming off contract at the end of the year.

The options are to pay overs for players that are not at the required level (If that happens, we would then slam him for being irresponsible), try and get players out of existing contracts (which is never a cheap exercise), or take a risk with players from the SuperLeague (which can be hit and miss). Unfortunately, the best middles and halves out of the UK at the moment are either too old to chance their hand in the NRL (Walmsley and Hill), also under contract (Oledski, Lees, Wilson, Williams, Dodd) or ex NRL players who left for a reason.

UK players have been known to break contracts for the chance to play in the NRL but it's always a gamble. I think Oledski looks the best of the younger middles but he is no James Graham.

Unfortunately reason, context and logic like you've just displayed are a very rare commodity these days.

I think we are 12 months away from formulating a report card on Gus.

Not buying a half is what is concerning me.

I called for Gus, as the only person who had enough RL gravitas, to be able to help our club out of our spiral, at least 7 years ago.

So I support his appointment... but there is kinda something disturbing in having your clubs General Manager Football praising other teams and big noting how much you admire them and how great they play on one hand and then pointing out all the faults of Dragons and Tigers when we are barely any better and have the same low performances, and so far away from the Top 8 teams it isn't funny.

Is it kinda unprofessional and looks silly and maybe reflects badly on our Club as him being a pain who criticises other teams and yet oversees our underperforming efforts to win games with our poor roster he has the responsibility for?

Love Gus and his Twitter info but maybe he does need to lay off the TV media until we can regain some respect with our football.
Just posing the question.

Torn.

If Gus wants to be serious about this club, rid your media commitments and sucking off the Cowboys on ch9 footy shows and sign a fucking halfback and 3 forwards

We started the season relatively strong with 3 wins from 5 games and could of very easily been 4 from 5 if not for the Warriors rort game where Mahoney was clearly obstructed. And no Addin Fonua-Blake wasn't supporting SJ because a support player cannot be in-front of the ball carrier.

Then take into account our prized recruit in Kikau plays three games all year, Thompson doesn't even start the season and still hasn't played, TPJ missed the first 7 games, injuries to Kiraz, JAC, Brown, Patolo, Burns, King playing busted all season, Avo playing on one leg for three games and origin selections to Burton and JAC. Compound this with a squad with the least amount of NRL experienced out of all the 17 NRL teams. Our team has never had the chance to build any form of cohesion.

The imbos climbing into Gus need to take a look at our lower grades and see what talent is coming through. The Knock-on Effect Cup team is leading the comp, Jersey Flegg are second, S G Ball eighth, and Harold Matthews fourth. All of these teams have a sprinkling of genuine quality performers, signed up and/or nurtured by Gus, and several of them will be first graders and even rep players when they mature.

This is the thing that always gets me. People have terrible memories when it comes to injuries and ref errors. I.e: They forget that these things have a huge bearing on results.

You just have to look at some of the best performing clubs this season and how losing only one or two players has affected them. It shouldn’t be understated really. When you have 2 of your starting pack out for the whole season practically (Kiks only played a few games) and many others having from a few weeks to months out, you’re up against it in a major way.

Logically it might seem like you should still win games as a replacement player can’t be that much worse, but in reality, every replacement player will usually reduce the whole team’s ability by a bit. When half the team is players that otherwise would be in reggies, it’s no surprise that they don’t perform well.

Exactly right. Plus your defence will break down with different players inside and outside of you on the field each week.
