“What more could this man have done?”

“Here, a professor and an eminently qualified physician have produced and provided to the applicant a medical exemption,” he said.

“Further to that, that medical exemption and the basis on which it was given, was separately given by a further independent expert specialist panel established by the Victorian state government.” - Judge Anthony Kelly

hence, why the government consented to Djokovic's initial Federal Court application to quash the initial cancellation of his visa... because on legal grounds, they were not going to win

so committed that they let in Rublev who was suffering from Covid because he was vaccinated but kicked out a healthy Djokovic because he was unvaccinated? boundless hypocrisy

and the reason why the minister termed it as a health and civil order matter is that it was sufficiently vague and the bar for exercise of said discretion low... dirty politics --> to the point that they waited until Friday evening forcing the second hearing to be heard on a Sunday

and if anyone seriously views Djokovic as some master manipulator and thought he was cheating the system by coming to Australia last year, just have a read through the transcript with Australia Border Force -->

“What more could this man have done?”

Just because he was the number one Tennis player in the world doesn't mean he's exempt from the laws of the country he travels to.

Forget about who is. EVERYONE has to abide by the rules and laws of the countries they visit and by make an effort to KNOW that before they travel.

He, the Victorian Government, Tennis Australia preferred to dance around that course of action and he like anyone else was rightfully deported after having his VISA cancelled.

There is no Grey area here. It is black and white. He should NOT have carried on with the charade of saying he had caught Covid-19. He was unvaccinated and I have no problem with him or anyone who chooses not to have it, that's their choice, even if I disagree with their choice.

probably only the combat sports are a bigger drain mentally on the participants than tennis
I reckon tennis is harder because every set there's so much stress and pressure. Even within one game where you're facing break points and tie breaks. It's an emotional roller-coaster for between 3-5 hours and they have to do that against 7 opponents to win a slam. And you're all by yourself out there.

At least with combat sports you have less time to think and mind fuck yourself like you can in tennis.

maybe... then again, if I was in the ring here, it would make me question my life choices

I'm pretty much a sports nut, have followed and played Tennis in the '80's, only focus on the Mens Grand Slams these days, other tournaments don't really interest me nor does womens tennis, which I use to watch but will only watch if there is an Aussie playing. Last time I really got interested in Womens Tennis was when Ash Barty was playing but did see a lot of champions in both mens and womens over the years.

As someone previously mentioned naming any player from any era, the GOAT is purely down to personal opinion.

I remember my late father saying Ken Rosewall was the best player he'd seen yet he was beaten more times by Lew Hoad than he won. Most people who saw Rosewall play in his prime thought he was the best of his era due to his movement around the court and having one of the most potent backhands in the game.

As in all sports time catches up with them all, hence why I find it hard to pinpoint the GOAT. Borg was dominant in the late '70's and most were calling him the GOAT around that time until McEnroe came along and while Borg had his measure when they first met, McEnroe in time became stronger, fitter and more dominant in the early to mid-'80's.

I always thought McEnroe was the best I'd seen until Sampras came along and he was so dominant. Plenty of other top line players in between including Becker, Lendl, Edberg, Wilander and Courier but they never had the dominance of a Borg, McEnroe, Sampras, Federer and Djokovic.

Czech player Voracova, who like Djokovic, was deported from Melbourne, gets Australian visa reinstated

In its findings, the Administrative Appeals Tribunal of Australia says the case of Voracova can be distinguished from that of Djokovic

Renata Voracova, the Czech player who like Novak Djokovic, had her visa revoked prior to the 2022 Australian Open over her vaccination status, has had her visa reinstated after a tribunal found that there was no wrongdoing on her part.

Renata Voracova had entered Melbourne in January to compete at the Australian Open with a medical exemption but as the Djokovic visa saga exploded, she found her visa status also under scrutiny and then had to leave the country.

The decision to reinstate her visa was made on February 8, according to The Age.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal of Australia said in its findings, “There was no evidence Ms Voracova failed to comply with her visa conditions. She had followed all relevant rules and there was evidence she had relied on representations made to her by Tennis Australia and the Department of Health in Victoria about her medical exemption. I accept the submission that there was no law preventing Ms Voracova from entering Australia at the relevant time even though she was unvaccinated.”

“She truthfully answered the travel declaration and she had cogent medical evidence to support her exemption, being the evidence provided by her general practitioner about her vulnerability to thrombosis. Notably, Ms Voracova did not need to rely on the fact that she had previously contracted COVID-19 as a medical contraindication to vaccination because she had a medical basis to delay vaccination,” the Tribunal added.

The findings also spoke about how Voracova’s case was different from that of Djokovic, who faces a three-year ban and may not be able to play at the Australian Open next January.

As per Australian laws, Djokovic will not be allowed to enter the country for three years unless the Immigration Minister provides him an exemption on compelling or compassionate grounds.

“I also note, for completeness, that Ms Voracova’s case can be distinguished from [the] Djokovic [case] because her visa was not cancelled on the grounds of ‘good order,’ nor do the circumstances of her case lend themselves to such a conclusion. “As noted, Ms Voracova is not opposed to vaccination and, unlike the Djokovic case where the minister apparently found there was evidence Mr Djokovic had shown a disregard for the self-isolation protocols, there is no such evidence before me to this effect in this case.”

Djokvic has repeatedly said that he does not plan to get vaccinated in order to play tournaments. Speaking after winning Wimbledon earlier this month, the Serb remained hopeful of being able to compete at next month’s US Open or the 2023 Australian Open.

“I’m not vaccinated and I’m not planning to get vaccinated so the only good news I can have is them removing the mandated green vaccine card or whatever you call it to enter United States, or (an) exemption,” the Serb said.

“I don’t know. I don’t think exemption is realistically possible. If that is a possibility, I don’t know what exemption would be about. I don’t know. I don’t have much answers there. I think it’s just whether or not they remove this in time for me to get to USA.”

Thanks for that, proves everything I've said is correct. Djokovic lied and is an anti vaxer as he refused to show his Vaccination status as he didn't have one. When he used the excuse of having had Covid previously, to gain exemption, he needed to be in isolation, but he was then seen at a Tennis Camp in Spain with kids!

The guy has no consideration for anyone else but himself. That said, he's undoubtedly one of if not the best player to have ever played the game.

This woman followed the protocols and told the truth. She is not an anti-vaxer she couldn't have it at the time for specific medical reasons that were deemed plausible for her non vaccination. Every case is looked at on an individual basis.

A few problems with this post

firstly, the statements from Djokovic relied upon by the AAT about being an anti-vaxxer post date the Australian Open saga and therefore, irrelevant to the law and the determinations made... at the time of his deportation, the only real evidence from memory was a 2020(?) interview Novak gave about his scepticism before a vaccine had been developed (he was actually very quiet about his vaccination status leading up to last year's AO but had arranged for testing and vaccination centres at his tournament in Serbia, donated respirators to Serbia and at least Italy etc.)... a bit like radio broadcaster, Neil Mitchell, who "sarcastically" demanded Djokovic be deported again, saying that Novak's admission that his family tolerated the worst sides of his character proved Australians were right all along about him after Djokovic's emotional response to winning the Australian Open,... imagine, for example, someone saying that they haven't been a good husband... does that by Mitchell's logic allow me to openly claim he is likely unfaithful or abusive or forces himself on his wife? that is the level of discourse in Australia when it comes to Djokovic

secondly, if Voracova's matter is distinguishable from Djokovic's as to her thrombosis as opposed to Djokovic's Covid contraction, then why was she deported? She alleges that she was strip searched or at least the ABF demanded she strip --> https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...nis-players-failing-stand-Novak-Djokovic.html
she also claimed that she would seek compensation --> https://www.theage.com.au/sport/ten...ts-deported-czech-player-20220112-p59nof.html
that she did not have legal assistance and was unaware that she could appeal --> https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...acova-on-being-kicked-out-of-australia-tennis

thirdly, the AAT state per the article: "I accept the submission that there was no law preventing Ms Voracova from entering Australia at the relevant time even though she was unvaccinated.”

Extreme position! I've already acknowledged his Tennis prowess that's for all to see as is his off-court antics and lies.

No one was going to beat Novax after the way he has played coming into the tournament and having a number of seeded players who didn't play due to injury including, Kyrgios, Alcaraz, Zverev and Nadal succumbing to injury early in the tournament.

I suppose you believe his strained hamstring injury as well. Guy moved around the court with little or no problem but had his leg strapped up right up until the finals and then it miraculously disappeared. The guy should move into the WWE when he retires, he'll fit right in.

It was claimed he had a hamstring strain and for any sports person with such an injury they would need a minimum of 4 weeks off before playing again. NRL players doing a hamstring are rested but not Novax.

Oh, and one last porkie from Novax after his father was seen in a photo with a Putin supporter and Russian flag. He said he didn't want to get involved with that, fair enough as he had a tournament to win but then came out after and said there were a lot of people and Serbian flags, and he thought it was a Serbian supporter. Really?

The guy had Z on a flag and on his clothes plus a full picture of Putin on another flag, no one could've NOT seen it and the guy was chanting he's pro Putin bile as well.

Australian Open allow Z T-shirt man back into Djokovic match days after police questioning

The 'Z' symbol is banned from the Australian Open along with Russian and Belarusian flags.

The American-Serb super fan shown wearing a Z T-shirt on Wednesday was allowed back into the Australian Open tonight after Zoran Pavlovic claimed it was just the initial to his first name.

Four unidentified supporters were evicted by Victoria Police after incidents following the displaying of the banned Russian flag in Melbourne Park.

But the man shown wearing the black T-shirt was allowed to remain in the Rod Laver Arena because he had immediately covered up the shirt when asked. He was then seen as “compliant” with the rules by Tennis Australia and returned to the event tonight.

Former Ukrainian player Alex Dolgopolov, who is now serving in his country’s army, had tweeted an image of Pavlovic wearing the Z T-shirt on Wednesday and wrote: “This guy will get banned for life, at least for all Australian events, right? @AustralianOpen”.

But Pavlović told Serbian website Kurir he had been questioned by Victoria Police but explained: “I immediately told them that my name is Zoran and that I am known for t-shirts with the letter "Z". I also gave them the documents, and the police officers politely apologised to me and let me go. I am an American citizen, I have never had a problem, wherever I am in the world.”

He was back in the Rod Laver Arena to witness Djokovic beat American Tommy Paul in the semi-finals today.
Pavlovic had worn a shirt with the words: “Djokovic, Jordan, Messi” and got it signed by the Wimbledon champion earlier in the tournament.

Tournament organisers are currently unable to say if the four fans booted out earlier this week are banned or will be able to return for Sunday’s final.
Novak Djokovic will face Stefanos Tsitsipas aiming to winning his 10th Australian Open final.

Security guards at Melbourne Park have been issued with a new set of guidance showing 13 banned flags - including the Belarus flag - and the Russian army symbol shirt showing the Z.

generally, Balkan sporting fathers can be nightmares (eg. Damir Dokic) and Srdjan Djokovic does more damage than good to his son

and just to emphasise my point, for the football fans on here, Nemanja Vidic's father once got into an argument in a tavern in their hometown which led to him unzipping his pants, whipping his c*ck out on the table and announcing to all present that that had made the best centre back in the world

Who doesn't give Novak credit? Everyone universally agrees that he's one of the greatest ever. Lots of people think he is the greatest ever.

I don't understand why Novak fans get so defensive about who the GOAT is when it's totally a matter of opinion and doesn't diminish another players accomplishments.

I don't know how Novak, or anyone can be the undisputed GOAT when he's tied with Nadal for most slams and Fed only has 2 less than them. And even then, it's about more than stats and who won the most slams as eras are different etc. I think Sampras is close to those three but he retired much earlier. Had he played well into his mid 30's like those three, maybe he would have won another 5 or more slams.
To be fair mate, i think I know why Sampras pulled up stumps? Got owned by Hewitt thought f I've lost it if this little prick is wiping my arse, I'm OUT.
So I think he was done personally.

That's why these guys deserve the big wraps..though partly we could bag the pretenders..and do lol

Sampras had a wicked serve 1st and 2nd ball but I think these goats are getting enough returns back to roll Pistol more often than not.Dunno about you but imo he was a surly prick I didn't like him either lol.

I understand the polarising opinions of Kyrgios I would dislike him if he wasn't an Aussie.

Sampras lost at the US Open in 2000 to Safin and to Hewitt in 2001 but won in 2002 and retired... nothing wrong with that and he was considered alongside Laver as the best ever at that point

I speak the language
So now you're saying the words from that YouTube clip are wrong and the guy who was allowed back in wasn't the same guy carrying the flag in the video.

If it was, he must've shaved and put on a few years before being allowed back in. :tearsofjoy:

I linked the tweet of Sasa Ozmo, a Serbian journalist, who states that the comment of Srdjan Djokovic has been wrongly translated and what he was actually saying was "Cheers, guys"... now, the word in - let's call it - the Yugoslav language "Ziveli/Zivjeli" literally means "love live" but it is colloquially used for "cheers" when, for example, you tap glasses before drinking... "Ljudi" means people... but the news outlets translate the cheers bit literally and mistranslate "ljudi" as "Rusi" (ie. Russians) and you have news stories about Djokovic's pro-Putin father, calls to ban him, demands from the Ukrainian ambassador for Djokovic to openly condemn the Russian invasion etc... and Australians are too f*%#ing hateful to ascertain what actually happened but rather just go on the attack... an aggressive ignorance

obviously, the man inside Rod Laver Arena is not the same as the one with the flag... I specifically said Zs in general because any such presumptions can be very wrong (see Mr Pavlovic)... and the most ironic thing is that the letter 'z' does not even exist in the Cyrillic alphabet and so, you have all these countries in the West banning a letter the Russians don't even use

REVEALED: Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open with a 3cm hamstring TEAR as tournament director confirms the Serbian did NOT fake an injury on his way to his tenth title Down Under
By OLLIE LEWIS FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA

1 February 2023

Novak Djokovic played with a three-centimetre (1.2 inches) tear in his hamstring during his run to a record-extending 10th Australian Open title, tournament director Craig Tiley said on Wednesday.

The Serbian, who suffered the hamstring injury en route to winning the warm-up title in Adelaide, won the season-opening major after beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday's final for a men's record 22nd Grand Slam title, matching Rafa Nadal's haul.

'This guy I did see, he had a three-centimetre tear in his hammy,' Tiley told SEN Sportsday. 'Absolutely (I saw the scans), the doctors are going to tell you the truth.

'There was a lot of speculation about whether it was true or not, it's hard to believe that they can do what they do with those kinds of injuries.

'He's remarkable, to deal with it extremely professionally.'

Djokovic's coach Goran Ivanisevic said after the final that the world number one battled the injury, which would have forced most players to quit.

The 35-year-old had to dispel doubts surrounding an injury throughout the tournament

'He's so focused on everything he does, with every single minute of the day,' Tiley added. 'That's what he eats, what he drinks, when he does it, how he does it.

'There's no breakdown or mental breakdown in anything that he does. He's been through a lot and to win 10 Australian Opens, I don't think that's ever going to be repeated... He'll hold a significant place in the history of the Australian Open.'

I am fascinated by the fact that Nadal is actually right-handed... cannot think of another sporting example of someone using the other hand and being world class... I guess there is Ben Simmons who writes with the right hand and shoots the ball with the left --> but he can't shoot for sh*t
Uncle Toni noticed that while playing tennis, at 8 years old mind you, his left hand was stronger than the right one, and hence they decided to make the switch..

Federer says thanks Toni you gave me a great rival..mutters..you prick..
