Looks to me like just another test to see if we will let Thompson go. Option a) we’ll give you Luke brooks. Option b) if you don’t want like brooks how much do you want for Thompson? (He’s going to need to get vaxxed to play either way)

Wonder if vaccination will be used as a tactic to leave clubs before vaccination suddenly happens elsewhere. Don't think covid vaccination should be mandatory for players but at the same time you're options will be minimal if you don't.

For the hassle of throwing another name up he's not much better than what we have.

As of right now no unvaccinated player will be playing in Melbourne by Vic government regulations. So I don’t know how that works for The NRL if they’re not gonna policy on it. And what happens if QLD and NSW follow?

Are clubs expected to pay players who can’t play because of “personal choice”?

Exactly and why the fuck would we even want Brooks he is bog average not worth the massive overs. We couldn't possibly be entertaining such a thing...

I hope Thommo backflips on his anti Vax stance surely will have to.
Brooks is okay, he just isn't the type of half the Tigers want him to be. If the Storm move on Munster I wouldn't be surprised to see Melbourne snatch him up, Knights another if Pearce is gone. You'd take him at almost half the salary, even then he doesn't really offer that much more than what we already have at the club right now.

Interesting question. If NSW and Qld (or NRL) mandated it then the unvaccinated would have nowhere to go as they couldn't play a game anywhere. Problem is no one is willing to take the liability risk and will wait for someone else to take the risk if it all backfires.

The wording of their contracts would have a lot to do with it too, are they just contracted to play games (injured players could be in breach if it was just this or there could also be issues over club non selection) or does it include training, meetings, club promotional activity and other activities .... it could be argued that they can fulfil that part of their duties.

Only positive is if he doesn’t take the vax he can’t sign with any other team so that’s one player that won’t come back to bite us. 850k is a hefty amount of cap space to tempt the cheese lol

Can't see how an unvaxxed player could possibly be allowed to remain in the playing group with training etc. The chances are much higher of spreading infection, although still quite possible admittedly, and knocking out half your team with more serious symptoms than if vaxxed (according to now widely accepted Covid research by experts)...and for the sake of mainstream opinion...that is what is most widely accepted reason for getting vaxxed)

Thommo, and anyone else refusing vax and therefore cant travel with the team, would be our 2022 Hoppa, and very disruptive within the team dynamics, by choosing not to make themselves available.

But good luck to you with your personal choices.

One in: all in ...or not in my team.

But it's probably all bs about Thommo anyway :grinning:

Please keep this thread on topic about Thompson and not derail things with personal opinions about covid or vaccinations. There’s a covid thread in the lounge.

Anyone getting off topic will get banned from the thread.
Point taken !

A tale of two Lukes – Brooks and Thompson – has the potential to impact several NRL clubs, and shake up the game, this week.

Luke Brooks is being positioned to leave Wests Tigers, with his management saying he would prefer not to be coached by Michael Maguire. He has been linked with the Bulldogs and the Knights.

Luke Thompson’s situation is potentially more explosive. He has been butting heads with Bulldogs management about COVID vaccination. He has told them a number of times that he does not want to be vaccinated. He didn’t even want to wear a mask in Brisbane when players were required to do so after the competition was relocated to Queensland.

I revealed a few weeks ago on Channel Nine news that Bulldogs players were told they had to be double vaccinated by the start of pre-season training on November 1.

I sent Thompson questions about his opposition to vaccinations, but received no reply. Bulldogs chief executive Aaron Warburton also declined to comment.

Canterbury would be happy if Thompson took his attitude towards COVID elsewhere. One of Thompson’s best mates is Wests Tigers UK recruit Oliver Gildart. I’ve been told Gildart has been trying to recruit Thompson to the Tigers, without much luck.

And this is where the two Lukes are linked. If Thompson moved on, there would be money for Brooks at Belmore. It is my understanding that Brooks would be happy to be coached by Trent Barrett. The Tigers have specialist halfback Jackson Hastings counting down the minutes in quarantine after his return from the UK Super League.

The other issue for the Bulldogs is they already have a No.7, Kyle Flanagan. Even if they wanted Brooks – and got him at a discounted rate – the Bulldogs would still have more than $1.3million tied up in the two halfbacks. That’s a big drain on their salary cap.

What, a prick

I think that’s the general public too mate
Thats true....however if he feels that strongly about it then he can make the choice of not getting the vaccine and head back to England we can splash the cash... dont hold the club to hostage

Hopefully we don’t lose him, live the looks of our current roster. Yeah improvements are required but fuck it’s looking good.
