It's more about how it dominates every ad break now and how it influences young kids. If they constantly have betting odds and ads shoved in their face, then they're much more likely to develop unhealthy gambling habits from a young age as they're desensitised to it.. Like Marley said, it's even in video games now.

Obviously people should be held responsible for their own actions, but the betting agencies should also be held accountable and should be regulated the same way tobacco companies were. I'd argue that despite the obvious health risks of smoking, the impact on families and the destruction gambling can cause can be far worse at times.

All people are saying is to limit how much they can advertise and at what times. And get betting discussions out of sporting broadcasts. That's not too much to ask.
Exactly. The issue raised is not moralizing against drinking or gambling. It's all good fun when sensibly done and partaken by those legally allowed to drink and gamble, so that's why we don't allow media advertising of alcohol or smoking any longer...underage kids see it...should be the same with gambling. It is very invasive.

Alcohol ads are still everywhere. I think it's bullshit that Tobacco companies are outlawed while Alcohol and Gambling advertising is considered fine. They should all be heavily regulated, not just tobacco companies.

Prime time advertising slots go to the highest bidder whether you like it or not, so that’s why you’re seeing it. And it also helps keep the sport you love afloat so it’s probably worth just copping it on the chin. Surely you can just change the channel during the ad breaks if it offends you so deeply?

There’s nothing wrong with having a bet or a drink, the problems come squarely from those who misuse and abuse these things. Everyone’s aware of the risks involved.

You don’t think underage kids are seeing all the alcohol ads that come on after 8pm?

Advertising aside, it is an absolute certainty that kids will have a high level of exposure to alcohol, drugs, smoking, gambling and the like through their friends, acquaintances and of course the internet as they grow up. Unavoidable. Education and raising of awareness at home and at school is paramount but at the end of the day the individual is wholly responsible for their own decision making.

Of course they do but they can also cap the amount of those ads per ad break at one. It's not like they won't sell those other slots.

I would change the channel but every other channel has the same problem whether there's sports on at the time or not.

There’s no other who’s product will align so impeccably with the audience. And no other who’s dollars and term of commitment can trump that of the betting companies. It’a a match made in heaven.

This is business not charity.

I come across plenty of people who struggle with addiction to gambling. Lives destroyed, but all of them originally felt that they wouldn't be "that person" who couldn't handle a punt.
It doesn't help that some of the adds are designed to make it seem like fun...the ones too where there is something happening that has to stop because a couple of blokes have still got a live Quaddie...

I dont mind Shaq's vids their pretty funny, ultimately gambling or not is a choice. For me(as a gambler lol) the pokies are the worst i get the points made that the advertising is excessive.
Too much money made from it unfortunately otherwise that Xenophon fella would have had some success yeh?

Not sure which is more cringe, those ones or the ones with Wahlberg...
