We definitely need a better half with burto, one that can tackle, has game management and kick the ball further than a 14 year old, and not kick it dead when close to the line. Baileys defence scares me alot also, he will be targeted big time being small can he play fullback?

Looked like Averillo got injured late in the game. If so I'd be interested to see how Lewis and BBO go together. If Barrett plays Flanagan, Katoa or JMK at 6 or 7 (wouldn't surprise me) ahead of Lewis he seriously is a f..king clown and has no idea.

I can't remember us ever having a 7 before who kicked the ball 10 metres backwards on the 5th.

Some kids handle it quicker than others, the jump up to FG. Admittedly Burton is playing in a much better squad with better coaching staff but he has handled the top grade like he is meant to be there, in multiple positions.

Jake needs time and much better coaching and then when it all clicks he will be a gun
Not everyone is burton mate, he's a special case. I'd think it's grossly unfair comparing any young player to burton and the claiming they're not right

I’d like to see two things from Avo for the rest of the season..1. Demanding the ball and 2. Variety in his kicking game (particularly on the 5th tackle). I’ll go out on a limb and say we’ll see more of this from BBO than Avo for the remainder of the season.

Jake's season is over, broken hand. Probably for the best, his confidence has been cut to shit (like most in the team) thanks to poor management.

Its unfair on him that he is playing halfback - out of position in a really shit team. He is streets ahead of Moses Mbye. Moses has no skills at all. Jake could make a good running 5/8th but we have Burton coming to play 6. The best option at halfback at our club is one of Lewis, Flanagan and Wakeham.

He will probably start next year in the 14 and eventually transition into the backline somewhere.

I've had it with some people assassin...
We have no spine our average team is ravaged by injuries and suspensions yet all the nif nafs want to do is pick on a young player who is playing out of position still trying to do his best...But the whinging never ends !
These kind aren't true supporters !
You could say the same about Lewis.

Is Jake turning into the next Moses Mbye?
Jake is someone who would have benefitted from playing in the reserves for the last 2 years. Unfortunately because of our crappy roster & no reserves he didn't get that chance. Give him some time in the 2s to develop & see what happens.

Looks the same as Mbye to me, even the same excuses getting made for him that were made for Mbye.

Moving forward with 3 games left and shot all to achieve, don’t flame me, but I’d be looking at

1. Averillo (fk Meaney off for good. He’s gone anyway)
6. Lewis
7. Flanagan (we’re either stuck with him anyway, or we can put him in the shop window, just tell him it’s his for 3 games to take pressure off) and NO, IM NOT A FAN.
9. JMK
14. BBO (only because he’s a kid and it’s the spot he was gaining confidence in. Let him enjoy his footy and running game)

People on here are right, Averillo is a solid runner of the ball and so is Nathan Cleary. It is very clear that we have adopted Penriths attacking style. Jackson plays that Yeo type role, Averillo roams both sides and needs to pick when he runs. He is clearly down on confidence which is why he isn’t running. I’d hate taking the line on when we are always on the backfoot.

I don’t mind seeing BBO in that role next year with Burton on the left but let’s take it easy on Jake with the Mbye comparisons.

He's a 20 year old ball runner that's been asked to do everything else other than run the ball. He hit a wall and has only regressed since then. Awful management from Baz.
He never runs the ball! I’m sure he’s been told too…

Seriously guys, some of you need to get along to at least one training session per month and see what the coaches see. I have only been to 4 sessions this year for obvious reasons, but from what limited amount I have seen Averillo is terrible under the high ball. If he is going to be any good at fullback he needs a full season spent catching and defusing kicks in general, because he sure as hell isn't good enough right now. I have also seen during games nothing to suggest that he is a talker, especially in defence, which is another must have for a fullback. He also doesn't appear to read plays developing very well, he is far to reactive and not enough proactive, another must have for a fullback.

In simple terms, if he is to play at fullback he has a lot to learn.

Great post mate and I asked the question a while ago when people were saying to put him to fullback if they’d ever seen him play there and I guarantee 90% of people had not. It’s such a specialist position these days not one to experiment with.

He comes across as a really nice kid but I agree on all your points, I just don’t see it with him. BBO has come in and looks a more suitable option for either halfback or bench utility than Avo.
