I don't care how shit your roster is. If the media asks if you are going to push for the finals, you say "hell yes. We're going to do everything we can to win the premiership"

If you're openly admitting you can't even compete for another few years, then you shouldn't be coaching a first grade team.

Why is that the case tho? It's just the elephant in the room if he keeps lying or avoiding it. With or without Pay saying it I know/knew that was the situation. Also Braith Anasta just nailed it on Fox.

Because it's a motivational issue. If it's a fact or not, it's admitting defeat.

When your coach says "Nah, we can't win with the players we have" then the players will stop trying. By the time we actually get decent players, it won't matter because the rest of our players will have losing mentality.

If you're on the back foot then you come forward and say, "we're not going to take this. We're going to dig in and turn it around". Instead Pay is saying, "we can't win so don't bother trying"

It isn't realistic. Nothing is 100%. There is a 0.01% chance we make finals (which means players should give 100%), but it isn't realistic.

So he says his main priority is to find a 9 for the 2020 season.
- Jayden Brailey apparently sgned with knights.
- Jake Turpin apparently knocked us back
- Jacob Liddle re signed with Tigers
- Api Korisau might be an option but Warriors going for him hard
Danny Levi is definitely not the answer, bearly an improvement on what we have.

I think he missed the boat on a quality 9 for next year
Pay would identify the player/players he wants. It’s the football departments job then to go out and get those targets, not Pays.

Of course not. It isn't realistic but when you're trying to motivate the team then you need to be 100% positive.

Imagine going into a battle and having your leaders say "we're going to die today. Good luck"

That's probably legitimately what pay says to the players before every game

I think Pay is quite honestly one of the few coaches that would ever say that.

It's clear all he cares about is keeping his job for another year whilst also dishing out the crap we have been given lately.

What a load of nonsense by Pay. Advertising to the players and the world not to expect to win. Should be sacked for talking the team down instead of building up their confidence and expectations.

Spot on, the fans are being spit on by the club

We've had the same three year plan to to make the grand final for half a decade. It's always three year's time.

Getting tired of waiting until "next year" to see any improvement. Lost interest in the team - they have nothing to offer, and no reason to spend hard earned money to be disappointed week, after week, after week. No spirit, no commitment, no improvement, no hope. Duds.

Well apparently DWZ was won over when he had a cup of coffee with Dean Pay, so I'm guessing Pay has some input in the negotiation process as would any other coach at any other club.

Have you ever asked yourself why isn't he still the coach at Womanly ???
According to an ex player that new few Manly people, Toovey was regarded as a " knucklehead as a coach " even before he became one !!!
And the results shows !!!
At least he saw what we all did today - Napa underforming again - and called him out.
Pay mentioned Lewis and Holland having average plays but nothing on our 'star recruit

Pay may well be right to not expect to win until 2021 because unless the dogs sack him, he will be the coach until the end of 2020. Ando we certainly will not win with him as coach. So it’s either sack him or suffer until 2021 when we finally get a new coach.

Pay would be lucky to see through the 2020 season with a new board elected and no Lynne or Chris to save his arse

Pay is doing his utmost to get the best out of the NRL's youngest and least experienced squad and would love "another three to four Dallin Watene-Zelezniaks" in his roster.

Imagine the squad reads this shit. How would they feel?

It's obvious we've got no class in our team but you dont go out and make these sumb excuses for poor performances.

I'm glad Pay doesn't do the retention contracts....so naive....DWZ's manager got him by the balls now.

Dumb arse. That interview a thorough embarrassment to our once great Club, Board, players, members, supporters. Get the hell out Pay. Last thing we need is more of your excuses, poor coaching, playing favourites and dudding others. Fed up. All time low.

This bloke is dead set a plonker.
He got rid of the three or four quality players he is moaning about!
This is a make of his own design.
Now no one wants to come.
The board and CEO are no better by still backing this moron of a coach and not taking control of the narrative.

Bla Bla we are shit until maybe 2021 and perhaps we will be less shit.
Is being shit for 5 years Bulldogs DNA, great plan Lynn and Co!
