Desperate Dogs coach swings the axe and dumps THREE players, while star backrower also out
BULLDOGS

Kieran Foran returns for the Bulldogs with Kerrod Holland, Lachlan Lewis, and Rhyse Martin out.Source: FOX SPORTS
Canterbury coach Dean Pay has swung the axe and dropped three players as he desperately tries to turn the club’s on-field form around.

Foxsports.com.au understands halfback Lachlan Lewis, centre Kerrod Holland, and backrower Rhyse Martin have all been dumped for Saturday’s Round 9 clash with Newcastle.

Holland has travelled with the team to Brisbane but will take no part in Magic Round.

In a huge blow to the team, Corey Harawira-Naera was set to replace Holland at centre but he has withdrawn from the game due to a family illness.

It means Kieran Foran will make his return from injury to partner Jack Cogger in the halves, Marcelo Montoya will be added to the backline, and Chris Smith also gets promoted. Ofahiki Ogden is also expected to be called on, meaning the Bulldogs will use all four of their reserve players.

Canterbury sit bottom of the NRL ladder with two wins from eight games and they’ve conceded the third most points in the competition.

Foxsports.com.au understands the axings are a result of that poor defence, and Pay has sounded a warning to the playing group to shape up.

It was earlier reported Lewis had remained in Sydney due to the impending birth of his first child, but the baby isn’t due until next week and he was told by Pay he wasn’t in the team.

It’s the second time this season Pay has swung the axe and made mass changes. He did it after two big losses to start the year.

With Martin and Holland both out, Nick Meaney looms as the likely man to take the kicking tee.

Lewis is out due to his missus having a baby. What garbage reporting.

Why is Martin being dropped? How are Elliott, Okunbur, Montoya and Sue all in FG right now?

I know Harper might not be ready yet but he can't be worse than Okunbur defensively so he should be getting a shot, not trying to move our best edge second rower in CHN to the centres.

Where is Renouf??? How does Sue get a run ahead of him? Katoa has to come straight in when he's fit...

Pay says according to this report axing was because of poor defence yet okinbur the player that run in too early conceding both tries is still there. Work that out. Putting in players that are worse then the ones his replacing makes good sense

Smith and Ogden deserve to be in the team regardless. Montoya replacing holland at centre is horrible, replacing a terrible defender with an even worse one.

Lewis was probably going to be dropped to bench so he decided to stay in Sydney. Doubt nu brown would’ve played in front of lewis.

Who plays edge? Smith or elliot? I’d prefer smith as he is more agile.

Martin AND Holland dropped? Goal kicking was a problem against Manly. Who on Earth be goal kicker then?

These mass changes every few weeks makes me lose even more faith in Pay.

Of course players should be dropped if they don't perform but chopping and changing 3-4 players at a time just looks like he doesn't have a clue.

He's just swinging and missing most of the time.

Are you surprised? TK is full of people choosing Cogger over him, there's a couple of threads devoted to it.
It's a no win scenario, someone will whinge no matter who's picked/dropped.
