Seeing as we only have 1 trial I was thinking that we got the insight on the players. Now who do you think will get told for R1.

I predict:

Hoppa
Smith
Holland
Montoya
Crichton (would like Meany to get prepared but)
Foran
Lewis
Tolman
Lichaa
Napa
Jacko
RFM
Elliot
JMK
CHN
Sue
Fualaou

You predict:

I think JMK on the bench is just a waste of a spot. I think Martin should be in his place and C.Smith as shadow (18th man).

Most pointless ***** in the team... I'd rather Lichaa lumber around for the last 15min then waste a bench spot on him.

I guess the Foran & Hoppa haters will be waiting in the wings all season?

1. Meaney
2. Smith
3. Hopoate (no reason why we cant swap him with Meaney at times pushing Smith to centre)
4. Holland
5. Crichton
6. Foran
7. Lewis
8. Napa
9. :(
10. Tolman
11. Mariner
12. Jackson
13. Elliot

14. Smith
15. Sue
16. CHN
17. Ogden / Fualalo / Renouf (cant decide after today)

* Martin was disappointing today and i don't see Pay picking him so i left him out

You’ll find that it will be pretty much the same starting 13 with only bench spots up for grabs.
I can see the logic behind a meaney and hoppa swap during certain parts in the game however it may impact in defence where meaney isn’t a natural winger nor even trialled there to see how he goes.

Why are people so eager to rush Will Hopoate to the retirement bin? He's easily our best fullback right now and is only 26. He should be fullback. Personally I would pick this team:

01. Will Hopoate
02. Reimis Smith
03. Kerrod Holland
04. Corey Harawira-Naera
05. Christian Crichton
06. Keiran Foran
07. Lachlan Lewis
08. Aiden Tolman
09. Michael Lichaa
10. Dylan Napa
11. Rhyse Martin (k)
12. Raymond Faitala-Mariner
13. Josh Jackson (c)

14. Nick Meaney
15. Adam Elliott
16. Danny Fualalo
17. Ofahiki Ogden

Am the only one who thought JMK was head and shoulders above Lichaa today?

1. Hoppa (out played Meaney)
2. Crighton (his quick hit ups and play the balls will be priceless)
3. Holland (developing nicely)
4.
5. Smith (kids going places)
6. Foz Dawg
7. Prince (exciting talent)
8. Napa (just needs to speed up the play the ball)
9. JMK (looked sharp in attack, will improve)
10. Toleman
11. Jackson
12. Elliott
13. R. Martin
14. Lichaa
15. RFM
16. CHN
17. C . Smith

I don’t see the point personally in carrying a utility. In CHN and Jacko can cover a loss in the backs by pushing them to centre. Holland and Jacko can cover hooker. Hoppa can go halves if need be. We have plenty of forwards. Backs are a worry though.

I think Nick Meaney will be our fb with Hoppa in the centres. Will is the better fullback atm no doubt, but he's also the only centre option of the two... Meaney either plays 1 or he plays ISP

Hoppa has been in great form since the end of last year when he took over from Mbye. He organizes the defence well at the back and will combine well with Foran-Lewis for those sweeping plays. Meaney is just not ready for first grade yet.

That's exactly how I see the team lining up.

Lichaa was shithouse today in the trial. We only started to roll on when he left the field.

Montoya was very good today at centre.

I completely agree with snake here (well said)

....HOWEVER depending who actually starts ?? I will be just as happy/optimistic, it’s round 1 season proper. I will be reserving all judgment and have every confidence in our boys that do start UNTIL the fat lady sings at the end of 80 v warriors..!!

Strangely I didn’t notice much difference between the 2 hookers. A couple of the early moves down the RHS involved Lichaa and he was noticeable on the inside backing up the ball carrier several times eg; Toleman’s try. Both had a couple of handy darts out of dummy half, gaining valuable metres. Defence wise Lichaa is better, makes more effective tackles, but yesterday JMK possibly did more work.

Overall I don’t think yesterday one was better than the other, they were both competent. Without either demanding that they be picked. As a trial it didn’t answer that question for me, so I see it as a 50/50 selection at this time.

Jessie Sue was a standout. Montoya was great in defence.

RFM over CHN everyday of the week.

Lichaa played better than JMK his defence was invaluable as was Tolman and C.Smith.

After a full pre season training, an opposed session and a trial game there's a few obvious selections and a few no so much;

1. Hopoate - is there really any doubt now.

Right side, the power running side, play flat and hit hard with short kicks behind the line, there's plenty of points on this side of the field.
2. Smith - never really a question.
3. Montoya - I thought he was effective and with Smith could make a dangerous combination of height and speed.
12. RFM - earned his spot.
6. Foran - in his make or break season, uninjured he's a no brainer.

Left side, the unpredictable side, they run lines, can play outside or cut back inside, kick long or short, hard for a defence to mark up against. Add Hopoate chiming in and it's a potent offence.
7. Lewis - again a no brainer.
11. Jackson - another no brainer.
4. Holland - also never really a question.
5. Crighton - signed for this spot and showed why.

The engine room,
8. Toleman - was never a doubt for me.
9. Lichaa or JMK - it's a toss up for me, neither has demanded that they be picked ........ so far.
10. Napa - signed for this spot and showed why.
13. Elliot - was never a doubt for me.

14. Sue - played hard, looked effective.
15. CHN - benefit of the doubt, hasn't impressed me so far, but has time.
16. Ogden - also a work in progress.
17. Fualalo or Tualau - we need a big guy off the bench.

Outsiders, if any one of the above blinks they will be in like Flynn.
Martin - if Holland's goal kicking slips or one of the other 2nd rowers doesn't kick on.
Toomaga - has potential.
Smith - the most likely to step up.
Cogger - I hope we don't need him because it means that one of the 2 has been injured.

When's the first game, can't wait.
