What if we just played with a full lineup of outside backs?

genuine question, what can props do that backs can’t do? And backs are way faster

Ciraldo low key a genius. We’ll be the fastest team in the comp

very good question.

Similarly for cricket. why do we need wicket keepers when we can have an extra fielder on the boundary to stop runs.

New thinking approach…..utilities play any position, so that effectively means that all 17 of our utilities can play any position at any time! I think we are on to a winner here! Forwards halves and backs is a rubbish approach… its
So 2023…..

Obviously we need to plan around what we have and clearly we don't have a pack that is going to bully other packs. Playing expansive with a mobile pack is probably a good idea. Stopping a more powerful pack from getting a roll on is the challenge. Stopping post contact metres and offloads is a priority as is winning the ruck. So might we have the first player in make a legs tackle? Most front rowers probably aren't thinking offload anyway. If the first player in can be effective then getting the player to the ground quickly with more players over the top should make sense. It would require training for it. Obviously having Reed as the first man in won't work!
And also spend half of the off season wrestling.

Smaller players are too scared to take on the middle of the defence and bust the line like a real man!

There's your answer why you cannot play with a team filled with backs!

NSW tried something similar about 15 ish years ago? Very mobile, big minutes pack and a sharp focus on ruck speed and second phase play.

If you can manage the other team's go forward with smaller men and you can find a way to speed up the ruck, then yes it's possible. But teams will clue in quickly and slow down your ruck, nullifying your advantage. So you have to continue to find ways around your size and weight disadvantage. Dummy half running behind markers, second rowers and 13's cutting back in, getting belted but hoping for tired big boppers so they can break the line with support from halves and an excellent fullback.

It can be done, but sometimes, you'll get a frightful beating from a good, big team
