I found a border collie x staffy. Looks pretty sexy and I'm thinking what a great mix smartest dog breed with one the strongest dog breeds
My neighbour has one,
13 years old one, on its last legs,
My boarder collie is also 13 and going strong,
They grew up together and played together,
Although my dog is bigger than the staffy X boarder collie it was clear the staffy X was generally more aggressive by nature and a real bully by personality when they played,
It was also clear my dog was more intelligent and athletic than the staffy X

I liked the staffy X boarder collie, it's a good dog, but to be honest I'd prefer a cattle dog X boarder collie,
I had one as a child growing up, and my boss has one now,

They are an amazing cross breed, and I actually prefer X breed dogs over any full breed dog, no matter what breeder or papers they have,

Yeah border collies are very smart aye which is why I'm attracted to the border collie x staffy. I love the intelligence of the collie and the features of the staffy beat of both worlds in my opinion.
I'd love a rotty or something like that but seeing as it would be the first dog I'll own I don't wanna get a dog that could rip me to shreds after 6 months LOL.

^^ Best advice I have is to adopt a dog already house trained. Let someone else do the work :grinning:

I am trying to convince my wife to take the same attitude to children.

Our girl is mature, and "kinda" toilet trained.

Normally she barks if she needs to go outside (or hangs around the back door). But other times if it's early morning or middle of night and she doesn't feel like waking us up barking, she will wee inside :|

Which do people like out of those 4 dog breeds and who actually knows what they're on about?

None for the OP.

No offence to him at all, just that he has never owned a dog before.

I am leaning towards a bitch Rottweiler, they seem like the perfect dog I spoke to some lady in Grafton she said most bob tails aren't natural bob tails, and if they were they'd be really expensive.
Can anyone confirm this?

I had a female Rottie as my first dog. Total sweetheart of a dog, and a 40kg lapdog. Farted like a champion though!

Bobtails are Rotties that have had their tails docked. It's cruel and actually illegal in NSW (I believe).

All traditional Rottweilers have long tails like a Labrador, and that's how the breed originally was.

40-50kgs is about the normal weight.

http://www.zankirarottweilers.com/default.html - Get in contact with them. Sydney breeder that we were considering going with for a Rottie. According to Dogzonline her dogs are sold with a 6 week Steve Courtney (K9 Pro) course as well.

So it's a good opportunity to get a quality bred Rottie, with good bloodlines, and have the breeder care enough to hook you up with one of the best trainers out there. So you can establish contact with them, and any additional training you would like.

I really cant afford to take time off work, but the puppy school is a must, I have made sure the family will keep it company when I'm not there

I just checked them out and it seems they have no puppies atm, but I'm in no hurry.
I'll call em tomorrow and see when the next litter is due.
Thanks for the link :grinning:

Be warned... your partner will go all "goo goo gaa gaa" over the new dog, and every time she heads out, she will return with a new toy for it.

I almost had to take my wife to obedience training to get her to stop LOL.

I had a look at their page as well. They definitely seem like a quality outfi, they do all the testing you would need for a Rotty and definitely seem to have a passion for the breed. The 6 week course is very important. Rottys do require a lot of socialisation early so make sure you take advantage of it. Steve is known as the best and his website K9pro.com.au has all the coolest dog stuff in Australia. I've blown thousands on there and could still spend a few thousand more pretty easily if I had the cash.

UPDATE: after a lot of reasearch and thought i have opted to get a rottweiler, theyre easy to train, loyal, big strong dog, everything i want.

I pick him up on friday and the trainer has absolutely convinced me that personal protection training and property guard training will in no way make the dog aggressive, this training takes place after he is 6 months old and obedience training must be up to scratch.

my dog has already passed the initial temperament test and will be tested again (if he fails he will not be eligable) before stage 1 of protection training, there is 4 stages of training stage 1 being only preparation for stage 2 and thats where the real fun starts.

And this is the beast himself and his mother
