Action Adventure.. Indiana Jones..

[Mr 95%]

The choking dust rises & settles as numerous planes land &
takeoff at a small military airport. We see U.S. army
vehicles rush back & forth between large open hangars as
newly arrived aircrafts are checked & refueled.
INT. MILITARY AIRPORT. SEMI LIT ROOM.
A one way mirror covers half of one of the walls. Indy,
having discarded his winter clothing for his more familiar
attire, leather jacket etc, sits rolling his fedora over in
his hands at a large table simmering, in more ways than one,
in the humid cramped room. Two vacant chairs sit around the
table.
A huge BRICK WITH EYES stands beside the door. In his late
30s his dark blue suit he wears barely contains his
massive shoulders. His square chin juts forward as he holds
his silent vigil over Indy.
CLICK.
The door is unlocked & two men walk into the room.

CONTINUED: 20.
The first is a tall, athletic man in his mid 40s. He is a
person of precision & detail as evident by his immaculate
tailored navy blue suit. Under his arm he carries two manila
folders marked CLASSIFIED in bold red lettering. He is
THOMAS THORNE.
The second is a man in his early 60s of medium height, but
robust build. He wears a United States military uniform
decorated by many medals for service to his country. The
stars on his shoulders indicate his rank. He is GENERAL
COOPER HARDING.
THORNE
Good morning Professor Jones. I
hope your flight was comfortable.
INDY
I’ll feel more comfortable once I
know what’s going on.
THORNE
Yes I’m sure but firstly some
introductions. My collegue here is
General Cooper Harding of the
United States army.
The steely General just nods slowly at Indy.
THORNE
My name is Thomas Thorne of Her
Majesty’s Secret Service.
INDY
M.I.6?
THORNE
Actually M.I.7.
INDY
M.I.7? Propaganda and Censorship? I
thought you guys were shut down
after World War 1?
THORNE
No no Dr Jones..we’ve always been
around..just that we have moved
slightly away from our original
charter, we now focus our resources
on areas more akin to your
expertise..so to speak. Where our
past experience in controlling what
people see and hear is quite
valuable.

So to speak?
THORNE
As you know professor, the current
climate in international relations,
between the major countries is
somewhat strained. Each super
power, for want of a better term,
is searching for that little
extra..shall we say..to further its
interests. We now have reason to
suspect that China is looking to
enter the game. Since the death of
Stalin, its been looking to rise up
out of the shadow of Moscow.
Chairman Mao is currently embarking
on something that will change the
world forever.
INDY
(Shaking his head)
Look what does this have to do with
me?
THORNE
Do you remember an ex-student of
yours by the name of Preston Ryan?
INDY
Ryan? I’ve taught many students.
I’ve been a teacher for a longtime.
THORNE
Let me refresh your memory. Ryan
attended your college in the mid
1930s & showed a keen interest in
religious relics. Much like
yourself he seems to have branched
out to finding them rather than
reading about them. With his help
we’ve been working on a top secret
project. Which may influence this
Cold War quite subtantially.
Of the two folders under Thorne’s arm, he places, the more
weighty folder in front of Indy. Indy opens it up..as he
turnes the loose sheets of paper we see pictures of stained
glass windows depicting saints, drawings of maps and pages
of printed text with hand written notes in the margins. The
one common thing in all of the documents are sketches and
underlined passages referring to The Holy Cross. Indy
notices this instantly and looks up at Thorne.

INDY
(surprised)This is the project?
THORNE
Yes Professor this is what we are
doing.. We are searching for the
greatest symbol of Christianity.
The Cross of Jesus Christ.
Indy looks backs at the pages in the folder..
THORNE
Tell me doctor what do you know of
it’s legend?
INDY
Well it was supposedly discovered
by Helene, the mother of the first
Christian Emperor Constantine
shortly after he converted the
Roman Empire to Christianity around
337 ad. She actually had three
crosses to choose from. So a sick
woman was placed on them. When her
body was laid on The True Cross,
she was healed. It seems to have
been destroyed after the battle of
Hattin in 1187 when the Moslems
under Saladin occupied
Jerusalem.(looks back at notes).
But there are things in here i’ve
never seen....
THORNE
It’s far from destroyed this is why
it is such an interest to us and
the Chinese.. but unfortunatley one
vital piece of the puzzle has been
misplaced.. Ryan
Finally Harding speaks...
HARDING
(slamming his fist on the table)
Look the guy is working for the
Chinese. He is working hand in hand
with Van Leung.


Indy looks puzzled.
HARDING
The guy we saved you from.

Thorne throws down the other manila folder he was carrying,
marked confidential, onto the desk in front of Indy...
Indy picks it up. He opens it revealing a stapled document
which he flips through. A small black & white mugshot of Van
Leung, with his distinctive scar, & various information
about him is contained in the papers.
THORNE
Leung is an elite officer of the
Chinese Red Army. To his men he is
known as sneik(snake).
Indy looks up.
INDY
He’s known as SNAKE? Oh great.
HARDING
And like a snake he strikes at
anything to get the job done..
whatever it takes.
THORNE
Yes. He is a highly trained
soldier. He makes no
compromises..none.
HARDING
And Ryan is helping him..
INDY
Why would Ryan defect?
THORNE
Let us say creative difficulities..
but more importantly is why we need
to find The Cross before the
Chinese. You see Dr.Jones the
origins of The Cross goes further
than this. Its story comes from a
medieval book titled The Golden
Legend. It was written by Jacopo De
Vorage, a Christian Bishop in 1260.
But it does not just refer to its
discovery..it takes us back to its
origin..to The Tree of Knowledge
itself. A seed of the tree was
planted on the grave of Adam from
which another tree grew.

INDY
Ive heard this before..the tree was
cut down and its wood, years later,
was made into a bridge which the
Queen of Sheba passed over on her
way to Jerusalem to see King
Solomon. As she crossed she somehow
realized the bridge was made out of
more than just your standard wood.
THORNE
Yes. She told Solomon of her
revelation. So in his wisdom, he
dismantled the bridge and buried
its wood fearing that its legend
would be fulfilled..that a King of
Kings would rise and see the end of
his kingdom. Dr Jones, the true
power of The Cross lies not in its
healing abilities. No, it has the
power to destroy empires.
HARDING
(shifts uncomfortably in his chair)
Or make them.
THORNE
And they are counting on Ryan to
get it for them.
HARDING
They’re counting ON..that this
relic will give them the firepower
to spread their evil doctrine. This
is a race.
INDY
To see who can get the biggest toy
on the block?
HARDING
If that’s what it takes..i don’t
see a problem with that. Anything
to stop that next domino from
falling.
INDY
(looking puzzled leaning back in
his chair) I still don’t know why
the Chinese wanted me I haven’t
heard from Ryan in years & how
would they know anyway?

THORNE
Espionage..taken seriously in World
War one, perfected in World War
two. There is more than Sputnik in
the skies.
INDY
Didn’t one of your eyes in the sky
just fall to Earth in Russia?
Something to do with a Corona
Project.
THORNE
Oh you’ve heard about that little
incident..Well you can’t make an
omelet without breaking a few
eggs..We just deny any involvement
like we always do. What’s more
concerning is that you know the
name of a highly classified
project.. but you are very
resourceful..part of your charm.
INDY
After the incident a couple of
years back where The KGB was on
U.S. soil I’ve got a few more
friends in the know.
THORNE
The Crystal Skull episode? Yes a
mess..but nonetheless still one of
your memorable adventures.
HARDING
(leaning into Indy) Look we hear
what we need to hear & your name
was mentioned with Ryan’s. So you
became a priority for both of us.
INDY
(siting up) I don’t even remember
Ryan.
HARDING
(eyeing Indy) Nothing sent to you
from him?
INDY
Am I being interrogated now?

THORNE
No no Mr Jones. We are on the same
side. What we know you should know
and vica versa. Its cooperation not
interrogation.
INDY
I’ve told you all I know. I may
have been mentioned but i cant see
why, apart from my teaching
association with Ryan. Look I don’t
know anything that can help you..or
them. Finding Khan’s tomb was meant
to be my last work..no IS my last
work in the field..if you want me
again you’ll find me in the
classroom..My body’s had
enough..I’ve had enough.
THORNE
For now Professor we thank you for
your insight. We will see you home
and be in touch. At least you’re
not working for the Chinese.
HARDING
Don’t have proof that is.
INDY
(standing) I didn’t think the need for proof
bothered you guys anymore.
Thorne nods to the Brick with Eyes who opens the door &
escorts Indy out.
HARDING
He’s not telling us everything you
know.
THORNE
I’m well aware of that General.
That’s why I didn’t ask for his
help directly & let him go so
easily. Some people like Professor
Jones cooperate better, when they
don’t know they are. That’s
something perhaps (turning to
Harding) your country will need to
learn.

Phew!! Well the pieces are set in place for the main adventure to begin.. However Indy didn't seem to be too interested in another race for a lost relic..or is he????? Ps if you get a chance Google M.I.7 ..it's interesting what some think they do now!

 

[Endeavour]

I remembered seeing on Amazon kindle books that someone had self published a screenplay. This was ages ago. I've just been and done a superficial search in categories like movie scripts, movie screenplays e.t.c. I found a couple of screenplays that people have self published presumably in the hopes of getting some readers and some good reviews and of course to get noticed. I don't know if you have explored this option. I also have no idea about how you go about it but its probably not hard to find out.

Guys I think I'm gunna post the next action scene.. It occurs after Indy (now with Marion)realises he has been contacted by Ryan..this leads em to Ryan's house..where he finds another clue about The Cross that directs him to The Holy Spelchular in Jerusalem.. Unfortunately Leung turns up with a martial arts expert henchmen.. Indy escapes on a train..

This was my favourite action scene to write..the closest I got to a real Indy scene..i reckon it would look great on a big movie screen.. I'd be very interested in what you think..and if it made you laugh at the end!

EXT. REAR OF RYAN’S HOUSE. AFTERNOON. BRIGHT.
CONTINUOUS.
Indy picks himself up after escaping through the window &
rushes towards the back fence. He reaches the fence pulling
off a pailing, squeezing through.
As he does, he sees Phong jump out of Ryan’s window in hot
pursuit.
Suddenly a ROAR from a 1957 Chevy engine fills the air.
Indy grins knowing Marion will get away.
INDY
There will be no argument now
Marion.
He looks up the train tracks that run behind Ryan’s house. A
commuter train is about to leave a small train station-the
perfect get away vehicle!
Indy sprints towards the departing train.
Meanwhile Phong’s young legs begin to gain on our young at
heart hero.
Indy now starting to breathe heavy, finally makes it to the
station.
He quickly jumps landing on the small platform at the back
of the carriage.
Indy turns grinning expecting Phong to have given up his
pursuit. His smile quickly fades.

Because Phong sure can run & has almost caught the train.
Indy looks around & quickly sees then tries, the handle of
the carriage door. IT’S LOCKED!
He can almost feel Phong’s panting breath.
Indy decides the only way is up!
He hoists himself up on top of the carriage just as Phong
reaches the train hauling HIMSELF up onto the small platform
too.
Indy makes it to the top of the train & unsteadily makes his
way across it.
A more sure footed Phong joins Indy on top of the carriage &
quickly makes up the distance between them. He reaches out &
grabs Indy by the collar. Indy turns around & swings a punch
at Phong who easily evades it. The momentum of the missed
punch almost sees Indy fall off the train.
Just as he regains his balance Phong punches Indy sending
him sliding down between the two carriages.
He lands on the connection between them.
As Indy lands he turns towards the next carriage & tries its
door - this time it’s open.
He quickly gets inside.
Phong is still on Indy’s trail jumping down from the top of
the train & following him into the carriage.
Indy rushes through the train as startled passengers sitting
on the seats look on open mouthed. Halfway through the
carriage the henchman latches onto Indy.
Indy turns around & swings a punch & this time it hits its
mark sending the henchman across the laps of two senior
ladies sitting beside each other.
TWO SENIOR LADIES
Ahhhh!
Indy runs to the next door & opens it exiting.
Indy tries the next door but it’s LOCKED!
He looks through the window hoping to see someone who can
open the door.

He spots a well dressed man standing just inside the door
sipping a martini.
Indy RAPIDLY taps the window.
The man turns to look at the disturbance.
Indy now, having gained the man’s attention, points to the
locked handle hoping he can open it for him.
The man smugly looks at our hero & simply points up.
Indy follows his finger.
A sign reading FIRST CLASS hangs above the door.
The man returns to sipping his martini.
INDY
What..first class..are you kidding
me?
Indy shakes his head realising the only way AGAIN is up!
Just as he reaches the top of the carriage, Phong, who
finally broke free of the two yelping senior ladies, bursts
out of the previous carriage. He quickly sees Indy & follows
him upwards.
Once again Phong makes up the distance between the two
easily, but this time Indy keeps his balance turning around
& punching Phong unbalancing HIM!
Indy turns away but as he does his joy is short lived.
Ahead is a low bridge with only enough room for the train to
pass under not two guys fighting on top of a train!
Indy looks up & down the tracks & he sees what he was hoping
for..A TRAIN COMING FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION!
INDY
This is gunna be tight!
As the train on the opposite tracks gets closer so does the
bridge.
As Phong moves towards Indy, Indy readies himself to jump.
As the train goes past Indy leaps towards it.
HE MAKES IT!
But only just, scrambling onto the top of the new train.

Phong sees Indy jump & quickly follows him-with a more
graceful jump than Indy-just as the train they left goes
under the bridge.
Indy gets to his feet & runs along the top of the carriage.
He jumps the connection between the two carriages landing on
the next one.
Phong quickly trails him.
Just as Indy gets to the middle of the carriage Phong dives
catching his leg. Indy, almost falling, turns & tries to
free himself from the henchman’s clutches. Phong gets to his
feet & now the two men face each other on top of new quicker
train.
They begin to grapple. As they wrestle their positions
change & Indy is now facing the way the train is going.
While the two battle for the upper hand the train switches
tracks.
As Indy ducks a roundhouse kick from Phong he looks up &
sees his new dilemma..
ANOTHER low bridge AND on it a machine gun holding Van
Leung!
He breaks free of Phong, pushing him away.
Indy looks up the opposite track..no trains to the rescue
this time. Indy looks back at the bridge.
INDY
Oh shit.
Phong looks behind & sees the gun holding Leung..he turns
back to Indy & grins his yellow teeth smile.
Closer the bridge comes..as it does we see a series of
street lights hanging by a cable, about a metre long, from a
suspended main cable, that spans the length of the bridge.
Also running the entire length, but on both sides of the
bridge, are two hip high cement fences..if you stood on the
fence you could jump and maybe just touch the lights..to
really grab them you’d need some momentum!
Indy makes his choice.
Indy suddenly rushes towards a startled Phong pushing him
over onto his back.
He keeps running towards the approaching bridge..

Van hesitantly raises his machine gun.
Phong turns around just in time to see..
Indy, using the momentum of himself & the train to leap over
the small cement fence of the bridge grasping one of the
dangling lights. The main cable that holds the light
stretches with the weight of Indy swinging him across the
bridge.
Leung watches open mouthed, cranning his neck as he follows
Indy’s path.
Phong too watches in awe right before he SLAMS into the
bridge.
Indy lands on the train on the other side of the bridge &
quickly jumps down between two carriages.
Leung runs to the other side of the bridge shaking his head
as he watches the train speed away.
We see Indy jump down between the two carriages &
immediately try the door handle-locked! Indy looks above the
door.
A sign reads FIRST CLASS.
Indy groans..
INDY
Not again.
CLICK the door opens.
A well dressed man looking very much like Sean Connery in
From Russia with Love (considered by many to be the best
Bond/spy movie made..it even includes a train!) appears
inviting Indy into the carriage.
WELL DRESSED MAN
(hint of a Scottish accent.) This
way sir.
He presents Indy with a martini with a single olive in it.
WELL DRESSED MAN
It looks like you could use this.
You look somewhat, shakin but not
stirred.
Indy walks in straightening his tweed jacket adjusting his
tie.
