Turvey was injured for a good portion of 88. However he still turned the game around in Lang Park against Langer when he came off the bench with his first touch and the Dogs came from behind to beat the virtual Origin Broncos side.It is interesting to have a look at the halfbacks for the 1988 season, there were a lot more good class halfbacks in that era, and having one was key to being in the top half of the comp.
Dogs (winners): Michael Hagan (the great Turvey in his final season came off the bench in the GF)
Tigers (runner ups): Gary Freeman
Sharks (minor prems): Barry Russell, won Rothmans medal that year

Pansters (5th): Greg Alexander
Doncos (7th): Alan Langer
Souffs (8th): Craig Coleman, Phil Blake
Norffs (9th): Clayton Friend (rival to Freeman as Kiwi #7)
St George (10th): Brett Clark
Eels (11th): Peter Sterling played about half the season, Ella and Taylor filled in
Chooks (12th): Laurie Spina, Gary Wurth

Knights (14th): Steve Walters (not the QLDer), Robbie Tew, Steve Fulmer

The 80's was the best era in terms of quality HB. 2000 onwards the overall quality of HB are lightweight compared to the Turvey Sterlo era.
