Trent Hodkinson's likely suspension has opened the door for Josh Reynolds to step into the halfback role for Canterbury against Manly on Saturday.
Hodkinson, who was charged with grade two dangerous contact for a nasty incident involving Gold Coast back Steve Michaels, will miss two weeks with an early plea or three with an unsuccessful defence after landing on Michaels' head with his shoulder.
And 22-year-old Reynolds, who made his impressive NRL debut for the Bulldogs in their round 11 clash against Canberra when he was named at hooker in place of NSW Origin representative Michael Ennis, will be Hodkinson's replacement.
"Young Joshy Reynolds will come in for him (Hodkinson)," Bulldogs veteran Michael Hodgson said after training on Tuesday.
"I think he showed two weeks ago against Canberra that he's made for this sort of thing, he played hooker and stood in for Mick Ennis and now he'll stand in the halfback.
"So he's a very versatile, talented kid and he's very confident without being arrogant.
"He's got a really good head on his shoulders and I'm really looking forward to playing with him."
Hodgson will reach a milestone in the match of the round against Manly, taking to the field for his 200th NRL game, while teammate Corey Payne will be celebrating his 100th.
