I really don't know how to rate these players out of 10. I mean really, what's the benchmark? What constitutes a 10 out of 10? What areas are we assessing? Attack? Defense? Their ability to fulfil their position? Work ethic?

It's difficult to say. I would definitely give all our players a thumbs up though. They all pass my books. Each and every player has played better than expected. It's unbelievable. I still feel like I'm dreaming when I know our team is on top of the ladder at the moment.

Moments like these you feel so proud :grinning:

quite the contrary. If you know what each position is supposed to do well then constitutes the full 10. As we know no player is perfect so no player deserves tha full 10. You cant be a perfect wing, centre, fullback etc etc. So pretty much say for eg fullback you judge them on:

- support play
- positional play in defense and attack
- defense
- kick return
- ball handling
- attacking ability
- defusing of bombs and grubbers
- discipline

Thats just a rough indicator for a fullback, some will argue there are more, some will argue theres less but thats pretty much the role of the fullback. Each position has its own checklist and from that you can derive a score for each person.

It doesnt matter about the skills of the person. The checklist is the perfect ideal player. So a no nonesense type player like grimaldi will excel well in say defense aspects of the checklist, but attack wise he might not score as well, hence his overall score wont be as great as other more accomplished players like say a nathan hindmarsh or Andrew Ryan from 4-5 yrs ago. They had it both.

You really have to know what each position does properly to give a rank. Most will give a high rank to their fav players as they have no clue lol.

Not true, Grimaldi's role in the team was as the hole filler and ass saver. He wasnt ment to attack (Although his strips and his stint at hooker weren't too shabby). I would say he could easily achieve a 9 for some periods of his play due to the fact he was there for defence and not offence (As he played in teams with no problems going forward)

You got to take into account what they do for the team and their role within it.

that was his role as thats all he could do. Which coach is going to tell a player, your role is just defense. Dont worry about your attacking skills.

Lets face it, grimaldi was an awesome defender but attacking wise he couldnt do that much even if it was asked of him
