I do believe we put in offers and failed to get:

Stephen Crichton
Brendan Piakura
Charlie Staines
Spencer Leniu
Katoni Staggs
Brandon Smith
Shaun Johnson
and how many more I wonder (ie: Tom Starling) ?

and we even failed to get our ex coach PHIL GOULD to help us

I also believe we have an offer to Capewell but he'll go to the Broncos

I doubt we even put in offers to Reynolds, Hynes, or Jarome Luai when he was available. Doubt we even spotted Reece Walsh before he signed with the Warriors.

Looks like JFH is re-signing with the Panthers. TPJ tipped to go to the Tigers or Dragons or the Tigers will go for Finucane. What the f..k is happening with our strategy IF we have one that is or are we just making it up on the run ?

Yes we're getting JAC, Burton and Naden (current reserve grader) but this isn't going to be anywhere near enough. We've been waiting for this rebuild for so long and it seems we're not building any better really than the Titans, Warriors or Tigers. Why ?

I suspect we might be offering unders in many cases because we're still paying too high for players like Elliott, Jackson, Allan, even Thompson (good player but if he's on ridiculous money he's not worth that amount). Even $120,000 would be a waste on Waddell, Stimson or even Flanagan the way he's playing at the moment.

We need to fix this somehow / do more to fix our roster somehow.

If we go into f..king 2022 now with the inexperienced spine below with no top middle forward either then frankly we've failed and there's no excuse good enough.

1 Averillo (probably 16th best fullback)
6 Burton (4-5 ?)
7 Flanagan (16th)
9 JMK (16th)

We can’t buy our way out of this mess. We have to bring players through our system . The 3 backs we have signed for next year are a great start, but we need to get back to the bred not bought mentality that made us so successful in the early part of the 2000’s.

Piakura and johnson are a bit different to the rest, from reports they chose us, besides last second pitches (brisbane more money and johnson's preference was the warriors)

also you're rarely going to recruit everyone you want when you're near the bottom. hopefully results improve next year and we look like a more attractive destination

Meh so many names get thrown up in the media you never know who they actually spoke to and who they didn’t. You’re never going to sign every player they go after either. Some people get caught up in the rumours way too much judge the recruitment when it’s finished.

If I remember correctly our club/board have come out saying we won't pay overs and since we're not an attraction we're going to miss out on >90% of our targets as long as there is interest from other clubs (so basically any good player on the market). IMO we've already lost Barrett's draw card in recruitment (was better than I expected), that's expected when you're gunning for the wooden spoon for a second straight season (especially after having an "A+" in recruitment for this year, according to some). Brandon Smith and Spencer Leniu are/were 2 players we should of paid overs for. If we aren't bringing players of that quality in for next year we're F'd again.

All of them were overpriced. We got JAC, Burton and Naden on a reasonable price. We tried to get Johnson but he loves the warriors and never wanted to leave.

In some minor ways, we must be on the money with recruitment if some players. Not only did Reimis Smith go to Storm. Now they are talking to Nick Meaney to come across. Storm see something. We’ve just got to hold the talent, get rid of the deadwood and bring some more fresh talent to build on bringing the Bulldogs back to their best.

It's going to take 3-5 years waiting for fair priced players and/or juniors to be ready.

Be prepared for a long wait.

100% spot on mate. Negotiations for contracted players opens up on November 1. You never really know what could happen in between. Just look at Corey Allan signing in January or even Flanno. You could’ve never predicted their signings. It’s only June and you can’t expect our recruitment team to have assembled our squad at this stage. 9 months is a long time in rugby league and we’ll judge them come round 5, 2022.

We're going to have to pay decent money for a few of the right players and that will attract others.

If you get offered similar money to play for a team constantly in the 8 or one who will be losing most weeks who would you choose.

I'm all for junior development and bringing kids thru the grades but those looking to Penrith as an example need to remember they have one of the biggest nurseries to choose from, have suffered for years before getting to where they are and haven't won anything yet.

This November is for 2023 (last November was for 2022 - where we signed JAC and Burton). It's unlikely to get early releases without trading someone worth wild to the respective club we're buying a player from.

Nearly all of those players listed resigned with their current club, so it’s not like they wanted to leave and then chose someone other than us
So who are our recruitment targets then and why would they come here over other top clubs or bottom clubs paying more $?? I'm only salty about a few of the players on the list above.

Very unfortunate, but also very correct.!!
