Alternative is don't make dumb signings out of desperation and get stuck with them for years like Napa, DWZ, etc
Depends what money is being offered. Nothing has been quoted in regards to figures, just a rumour.

The reality is we're going to have to develop players.

We can't sign a bunch of mercenaries up on big money it doesn't work just ask the Newcastle Knights.
Knights issue is that they're soft, can play footy when things are going well but when it gets tough they crumble.

We just need to simply get our shit in order, go over our current squad, reserves, 20's, etc and work out what type of players we have, what type of players they can become and then what type of players we need. These past few years we've just been recruiting blind with no real policy in place and have ended up with players we simply don't need and provide terrible value.

Look at a team like Melbourne, they just continually go through centres on modest wages yet we go out and throw 650k on a winger and hope he can make it big at centre. Cotric might Well kill it at centre but the amount of risk taken for the potential return just doesn't feel all that worth it.

Townsend is a very underrated yet smart and experienced half, and organises his forwards and backs very well, have always rated him and he is exactly what we need going forward. All our halves are way too young and inexperienced to win even the tightest of games and our only experienced half only plays 10 games a season, it’s a no brainer really. We are doing our young and up and coming halves an injustice by placing them side by side in a game and actually expect them to produce a result, we need experience, even if only for a couple of seasons whilst our young halves are maturing. Townsend brings so much to the table and he can also teach our young players how to behave themselves off the field and instil some family values at the same time. Use your brains Dogs fans, he is a big yes for me!

Lewis signature move” throw a cut out pass that kills some poor cahunt in row 13 of the grandstand “
I’ll take chad
Replacing one crap half within another crap half that cost twice as much is not going to solve the problem. It's a waste of precious salary cap and means less money for top class players that will make a real difference. Maloney was the one with the vision and creativity who set up tries for the Sharks in their GF year. Chad is just another version of Hodko.

Absolutely yes to Townsend. Gives us much needed experience and game management and a kicking game in our halves. Id take Townsend and Green next year as an experienced halves pairing and hopefully Townsend and Burton in 2022 with both pairings a massive upgrade on what we currently have. In our position we need to take what we can get.

Unfortunately with no Canterbury Cup this year, Wakeham especially has missed out on one years development. Hopefully some sort of second tier comp is up and running next year and combined with Barretts coaching Avo and Wakeham can really develop but for next year hopefully we can get Townsend

And Hodkinson was good for us when he was injury free... A Hodkinson type is exactly what this rudderless ship needs on the field. We were never going to sign Cleary, Keary or any superstar half.

Easy to do that when you have Munster and Smith and the ever improving Hughes (players that would never come to our club)

Hodko hardly had any try assists, break assists or line breaks before he got injured. No vision or creativity at all. All he did was mainly kick on the last tackle. Grub at least half the time had a running game but he couldn't pass properly. Luke Keary is a legit star half with 3 GF wins, one of the very few halves with GF at 2 clubs. Cleary was bog average until this year with TB he improved considerably. The only current NRL halves in I rate as a superstar would be Keary, DCE and Munster because they have the complete package in that they can take on the line effectively with their running game, line breaks, break assists, try assists, kicking, passing etc and they've got GF wins to back it up. The rest fall between crap to average to above average.

I think we've already missed out on signing Townsend. He's a player would should of been looking at before he extended last time around. The Sharks let Flanagan go to keep Townsend so I don't see why that'd be a good decision/idea to let Townsend go, or want him to go. I'm pretty sure the Sharks players and their coach rate Townsend very highly. I actually would prefer Townsend to Green. For the future I want Averillo (possibly fullback) and Wakeham in the team. I'd also like us to be aggressive towards Burton. That'll be a very exciting spine with a top hooker.

I've detailed in the past exactly how we get Townsend and how it plays out in all's favour.
It is very realistic.

Start paying attention to my posts and you'll learn shit.
To his credit,@Kempsey Dog was one who paid attention and flew the Townsend flag high.

Disappointing that people are shifting in Townsend.

Who's better?
There's only 6/7 halves in the comp better than Townsend and only 3/4 you'd say are 'organising halves' yo,
So who's better?
If I listed the top 5 (which I did last week) they are all sewn up and don't excpect To get them on less than a mill a year.
Yet someone just outside that top bracket we have the chance to nab for 500k!!

It's an unbelievable offer that's presented itself! It also allows a non organising half like Avo or Foran to accompany him

Also Townsend support game is pretty strong, when a break is made he's usually always around the ball.

There have been some great acts of sportsmanship and kindness in the NRL this year.
On Friday night we saw Parramatta second-rower Ryan Matterson go to the aid of opposition player Apisai Koroisau when he was heavily concussed.
Matterson stayed with the Penrith hooker until the medicos got to him.
There was another really touching moment in Wollongong at full-time in the Raiders-Dragons game.

There is not a better person in the game than Raiders centre Jarrod Croker.
He picked up the football at the end of play, delivered it to the Dragons’ debutant winger Cody Ramsey and said just four words: “Congratulations mate – well played.”
It shows that despite all the hostility, aggression and brutality we see every week in the heat of battle the combatants have enormous respect for each other.
There was another nice touch with Croker in Wollongong.

Before the game when he was practising his goal-kicking, one of his shots went over the fence and hit a six-year-old boy in the face.
He raced over to check and it turned out that it was the son of former Dragons forward Ben Creagh.
After the game Croker made a beeline for the youngster and gave him his headgear.
HIGHLIGHT
You’ve gotta love great comeback stories. Two guys who were down and out last year – the Raiders’ Hudson Young and the Titans’ Ash Taylor – had blinders over the weekend.

LOWLIGHT
The decision by bunker official Jared ‘Horse’ Maxwell to disallow a perfectly legitimate try to Roosters middle forward Lindsay Collins at the SCG on Saturday night, ruling an obstruction. Fortunately the Roosters were well ahead and it had no bearing on the result. If the same thing happens in a tight game during the finals, it could cost a club their season.
GUS’ BUNKER BLOW-UP

It was an incorrect call but some of the criticism of the decision was way over the top and out of order. Gus Gould said on Twitter: “What an absurd decision. Absolutely ridiculous. Referees and bunker have absolutely no idea. They create issues that don’t exist. That is disgraceful.” And this is the man Peter V’landys wanted to hire as a highly paid consultant. V’landys hates referee bashing.

SPONSOR GAFFE
The Canterbury Bulldogs jersey sponsorship with the Laundy Hotel Group is probably the worst in the game. They don’t get anything this year. Not a cent. No money until next year.
SHOOSH
We’re hearing there may be interest at Canterbury for suspended Cronulla Sharks halfback Chad Townsend. Townsend won a premiership in 2016 but hasn’t set the world on fire since.

About 40 mates of St George Illawarra debutant Cody Ramsay cleaned up on first tryscorer bets when the young winger dived over in the fourth minute. They each had $100 on the rookie at $14. It was such an avalanche that his price firmed to $10 by kick-off time.
CLEARY COACH OF THE YEAR
Surely the Dally M coach of the year award is all but decided.
Penrith Panthers coach Ivan Cleary is six lengths ahead of any of his rivals.
This will be a major embarrassment for the club’s former general manager of football Phil Gould.
In 2015 Gus sacked Cleary as head coach.
The position became available again when Gould sacked Anthony Griffin.
Gus didn’t want Cleary back. It was left to chairman Dave O’Neill to do the deal while the general manager was off trying to entice Wayne Bennett to the club.
