What’s the Buzz: Bookies back Bulldogs for massive rise in 2025

Bookmakers are freaking masterminds.

If they’re saying we’re a chance I wouldn’t second guess them.

Most of us just look at who has the better team on paper but they take in to account way more than that…
Bookies got the refs/nrlol on side for us? Lol

To see how off the mark betting odds are we need only to look at the 2024 odds at the start of the season:
  • Penrith Panthers – $3.75
  • Brisbane Broncos – $4.33
  • South Sydney Rabbitohs – $8.50
  • Sydney Roosters – $9
  • Melbourne Storm – $11
  • North Queensland Cowboys – $19
  • New Zealand Warriors – $19
  • Cronulla Sharks – $21
  • Parramatta Eels – $21
  • Newcastle Knights – $23
  • Manly Sea Eagles – $29
  • Canterbury Bulldogs – $41
  • Dolphins – $41
  • Gold Coast Titans – $51
  • Wests Tigers – $101
  • St George Illawarra Dragons – $101
The only similarities is that we are at the same odds as Melbourne and they will probably get first and last correct.

Good to see that we're getting some respect and we'll have plenty games on free to air next season.

Only negative is no team is going into a game taking us lightly next year

Those odds suggest we will be given an easy draw. How else can they come up with these conclusions? Aren't the NRL in partnership with the betting agencies?

The current squad did an amazing job but were a spent force after round 25.
So far we've only signed Amone and Tupouniua.
Those two players are unlikely to be the difference that gets the dogs into the Top 4 and to win three or four finals games.
Wouldn't consider anything less than 33-1 at the moment.
Or 20/1 for dogs to win in 2026.

We will probably finish above the tigers. But I won't be surprised if the tigers make the 8. I reckon our spines are on the same level.

You got to remember our spine made the 8 this season and the club will likely buy some more players this off season.

The main thing now is to see if the team can maintain our good form next season to finish in the 8 or possibly top 4.
I look at the bigger picture.....

We made finals this year, because we focussed on doing one aspect of the game well and managed to execute it well for a sustained period of time.

But the truth is, we didn't have many strings to our bow.

Our spine might have more depth than the Tigers but i think their starting spine is better and has more tricks up their sleeve.

Im hoping we can build on our defensive style and introduce more variety in attack. I have doubts though the current spine can take us to a premiership.

None of our spine players are in the top 5 of their position. And that will prove costly.

Look at todays teams as well as other teams in finals this year....

Storm - easily the best spine in the comp. Its been Melbourne's DNA for the last 20 years and their record speaks for itself.

Penrith - 3 of their 4 spine players are wirld class and easily in the top 5 of their respective positions. Add Yeo as the 5th spine player and once again, you can see why they have made 5 GFs in a row

Roosters - didn't have their starting spine for the finals but with Teddy, Keary, Walker and Smith, they are easily top 4

Sharks - Hynes is the only noted spine player and they are probably equal to us in that regard. Trindall was one of the form players of the finals. But you cant go far with only 1 spine player firing, and it showed.

Cows - Abit like Sharks, they relied heavily on Drinkwater and Dearden who are their noted spine players. Drinkwater had a poor final game and Cows were down on form.

Manly - easily have 2 top 5 players in spine positions. Even they couldn't go past week 2.

Bulldogs - no noted top 5 players in any spine position. Mahoney the closest but its just not enough to beat the top teams in finals games.

Knights - only 1 top spine player. Nearly carried them through to 2nd week but like us, just cant compete with the top teams who have 3 or 4 top 5 players.

There are teams outside the top 8 with better spines than ours. It is why there is no guarantee we make finals again next year.

We need improvement or better players in these positions to go to next level.

Personally, i think you need at least 2 top 3 players and ideally one of them is at FB. Otherwise, you need at least 3.

We are afew years away before we can pull a team like that together. Until then, making finals would be a good effort for this team.

We haven't (so far) recruited anywhere near well enough to take the next step.

Hopefully something is in the wind, or we could go backwards.
I don't want to contemplate going backwards :( but we haven't recruited strong enough as yet to lift us into Top 4 IMO.

Here's hoping tho. Capable but some other teams have recruited well.
Depends on draw and if we can get some early momentum.

I think Roosters after a very long time are in big shit next season

No Keary
No Manu
No Sua'ali'i
No JWH
No Sitili
Tedesco on his last legs and turning 32

I don’t think they’ll do too bad and might float around the bottom of the 8. Definitely in the beginning they’ll struggle with the injuries in key positions.

Keary gets replaced by Townsend and if he’s taking the backseat to Walker. He’s no Keary but not a bad replacement.

Billy Smith and Nawaqanitawase are the centres and that’s solid.

Terrell May, Siua Wong, Lindsey Collins and Spencer Leinu to step up next year

Connor Watson to take over from Cheese as their main hooker.

Tedesco is getting older but he’s not really slowing down with his contributions like Gutho

I hate to say it because I don’t like them and love seeing them lose but they’ll be fine
