Tino went there before he was elite. That was my point. Same with RCG and Topine.

Arrow ? Please.

I will give you AFB
Are you trying to retcon your own comment. Look at what you actually said. All of those players were good buys. Arrow was a beast for the Titans so I don’t know what you’re talking about

Mate I can’t remember the last team to sign a middle on huge dollars that turned out a good buy. The elite middles are normally developed and end up staying for a bit less.

Or you get em before they are elite.

Salmon doesn't play lock off the bench, Yeo 80 minute lock, Salmon plays low minutes on an edge and covers centre and five-eighth.
Okay so we have to follow Panther and not follow our own path okay!!
Im not a fan of Salmon hoping its not true Watson and Morrin is very similar id rather Morrin.

I just hope we don't end up with a team full of players who can play decently at multiple positions but aren't all that great at their preferred position...

This guy.................................. a great pick up. I've met him a few times at my work and is a very decent guy.
Also packs torque at the line.

Nope definitely standing behind what I said. That being "middle forwards on HUGE deals that end up being good buys".

What I meant was that when they initially went to the club it wasn't a huge deal (i.e. they would be in the top 2 paid players in the roster when they signed). I agree that most of the ones you mentioned ended up being good buys but thats after they got contract extensions (with the exception of AFB). If we sign either Haas or Tino we would have to pay a fair bit more than their current team and make them the highest paid at our club.

Certainly can see how it could be interpreted differently though. I was thinking more of clubs who spend elite money to poach forwards and how it ends up burning them because they dont have enough left for top level spine players. Signings like David Fifita, Luke Thompson, Tevita Pangai, etc.

Me explaining how Panther use Salmon doesn't mean we can't play him differently (at least I didn't say that). Salmon's done deal. Taukeiaho and Watson not 100% yet.

Ive said it before and I will say it again CC is obsessesd with utilities Salman, Taffe, Watson and Okunbor.
All of these players are utilities for a reason, they usually cant get a starting spot. Im not excited by any of the recent signings or the extension of Hughes and Patolo, both of whom are unknown quantities this early in their NRL career. This club needs a couple of reliable middle forwards, possibly still a 7, and either a centre or fullback for next year or they will be lucky to make the top 8.

So you're saying that Salmon is a done deal listening to what the media have said..... last week they said that the dogs pulled the offer from Salmon!!

Yes sir you nailed it. This club has too many utilities and not enough specialists. Too many small bodies and not enough punch. A spine still lacking a 1 and 7 with a questionable 6. Hard to imagine improvement next year without some key signings.

What’s with this “utilities” bullshit, it’s not possible to have a specialist (in a certain position) to be waiting around for the first chosen player in that position to be unavailable. Backup players have to be able to step up to at least 2/3 positions in order to be a useful back up.

Always a Bulldog

Perhaps the thing is that the utilities are available in a short market. I could handle Watson at seven at a pinch.

500K on these 2 another 500K on SST plus whatever on Watson. Looks like we're definitely not going for Tino. Spewing. Tino should have been the number one priority. 2nd priority SST.
I think the strategy here is to contract experienced players from winning teams into 2024 top loading contracts and bottom out in 2025 to make a play for some big guns… my take.
