Yep. No debate about it. NY f'd hard with this one. They advised nursing home residents to return to nursing homes after they had been treated but before they had clearence, they forced nursing homes to take them, and worst of all, they banned testing so they couldn't even clear then.
It was a complete screw up. Sure it only accounted for a relatively small percentage of the overall NY deaths (around 15%), but it was still a massive amount of deaths that were avoidable.
The cause of this was bad policy. But the saddest thing is that the policy was driven by the US health care system. If they had Medicare for All, then this never would have happened. It had nothing to do with hospitals being overloaded, as they weren't at the time. It had to do with elderly people not being able to afford hospital beds. So their options were to live on the street, or return to their nursing homes. That's why the policy was pushed through, but it wasn't a smart policy as it's a simple quarantine breach for the most at risk.
Honestly the US health care system needs a complete overhall but they'll never get it 'cause everytime someone tries, it's called "Socialism"
