Ok so I am on my second script of antibiotics in the past month die to a relapse of tonsilitis, and over the past few years I have gotten it pretty regularly in the winter time. The doctor told me today that if this keeps happening Im gonna need to see a specialist and probably will have to get my tonsils taken out.

I dont want them to operate ffs!! How many of you have had this operation and remember what it was like? Please dont spare me any gory details lol I wanna know what Im in for if I do need to end up having them removed. How bad is the pain? How long until you properly recovered? Do you really get epic amounts of ice cream? How long do they keep you in hospital? etc ..

please keep the deep throat jokes to a minimum, thankyou.

I remember my doctor accidentally cutting off that little speed bag looking thing hanging down from the roof of your mouth. I told him (more than once, and with a fist displayed) that it was only a primary school assumption that the speed bag was in fact a tonsil. He disagreed profusely with me, and proceeded hacking away at my throat.

Suffice to say I used his head as a speed bag when he removed the mini chainsaw from my mouth. That noise is enough to send you packing. Anyway, blood everywhere, even on the walls. But that was there before I got there. I was later informed that his surgery also doubles as an organ harvesting clinic. He slices you up while you're asleep, and stitches you up with leftover dental floss from the trash (he is also an unqualified orthodontist).

He's been my doctor ever since. Man's got talent.

Hope this story helped.

I have had mine out. I was 9 or 10. You get a needle which makes you go to sleep within a minute, then you wake up with a sore throat sometime later. You get to eat as much ice cream as you want but some abraisive stuff too from memory. In short- you dont feel a thing just like going to sleep and waking up.

Probably similar procedure for adults.

Too much deepthroat, not enough swallowing, hence why your tonsils hurt...

My bro got this done in his 20s and doesn't regret it one bit. He doesn't get sick anywhere near as often these days and considering he has 3 brats that go to daycare and pick up everything and anything going around, that's a pretty good effort.

Alex considering you are on your second script then your best bet is to get them removed. I got mine taken out about 10 years ago and I barely get throat infections at all. The pain will subside after a few weeks but the doctor will give you a very healthy diet of jelly and ice-cream. I was discharged a day after the surgery, the only shock is the vomiting of blood after you wake up. I remember feeling very weak and the first week it killed like hell but you are given anti-biotics to slowly kill the pain. Eating solid food is a bit hard at first so I was on the soup and the other fun stuff which I referred to earlier.

My advice DO IT!!

that's weird, my Doctor advised me NOT to have them taken out as the next time you get sick, you will be even sicker as the tonsils block most of the germs, that's why you get tonsilitis, amagine what you'd get if the tonssils were not there to block all the crap

I was 6 or 7 when I got mine out too.

I was skinny as up until that point (early onset of puberty didn't really help my cause either). I vaguely remember being in Hospital for around a week and throwing up a fair bit.
