Back on subject re Sexton.
From memory Sexton on coming into NRL at the Gold Coast has had only one coach
in Justin Holbrook who we would agree was a flop as a coach and did not have any input in Sextons
path to improvement. I can understand if he had a few years under, Bennett, Bellamy etc and did not improve , well no use in flogging
a dead horse so to speak. No one would pick him up.
He has now the first opportunity to be coached by an astute coach and already shown heaps of improvement.
He can only get better.
I wonder how many remember, after being signed, he rushed down by car overnight, so he could play that weekend's game.
Perhaps even at that time, he realised the enormity of the opportunity he was being presented with, and desired to show his intent from the onset to take it with both hands.

The other question that comes into play is what happens if Sexton kicks on and say we do incredibly well in the final series.

And say Woods and Oloapu completely destroy NSW Cup next year and every time they get get an opportunity in FG.

When you think about it, it’s a great problem to have and one we haven’t had since the early 2000s. I’ve always thought injuries was the reason Thurston left us as he started our 2004 season as first choice 5/8 before he got injured and Anasta was at lock
How to put this delicately/respectfully?
From what I've been advised by multiple sources, it was, ahem, behavioural, why he was moved on.
The type of behaviour that required multiple other teammates to physically intervene.

It is why I was glad he didn't stay with us, and why he is unworthy of even being considered as a legend of the game, let alone an immortal.
As if what was shared with me is true, it is anything but the type behaviour you would expect from a role model!

Thurston never really talks about his time at the dogs,
Considering we gave him tge opportunity no one else would, and he won a comp with us, I find that odd.
I think you are right.

it’s most definitely true my bro.
I have two mates coaching up in the Cowboys system and the stories I’ve been told make you want to spit in the blokes face.

role model and gentleman he is not.

The club has too many halves though most are currently not NRL level. Sexton should remain at half back but Hutchinson is signed for next year whilst I don't think Sexton is of yet, Woods will probably start next year in Flegg but end the year in NSW Cup, KO will return to NSW Cup at 5/8, I have moved past O'Niell and Taffe, but the Flegg half back Credence Toa (I think that's his name ) should be playing NSW Cup as well. Backrow is another problematic position in NSW Cup next year it could be Morrin, Salmon , Haywood, Mann, Kautoga, Hayes, Fifita, Marshall and Spinks all competing for a position. Something has to give. Taffe is signed for next year as are Mann, Haywood, Salmon, Morrin and Fifita.

Can't see Sexton not being offered another two years. The only reason we don't sign him is if another club offers him a longer deal. I'd imagine he would back himself to see off all comers for his spot and there's no guarantee any of the young guys coming through will reach their potential.
The players contracted for next year and seen as surplus to the squad will be offered up by Gus.
Gus loves to do deals.

So what! I don't see any problems, more like advantages.

Every decent NRL team has the same make up, we have 36 contracted players and only 17 play NRL any given week, so there are always 19 players that miss out. More than half of the contracted players miss out every game. Every player knows this, they can count, well most of them can anyway. When they sign a contract they know that they are 1 of 36 and there is plenty of evidence that Gould, when he sign's them, and Ciraldo, when he coaches them, makes sure that they know absolutely nothing is guaranteed. No player is guaranteed a spot, most definitely not a specific spot. Just 'cause you get selected for NRL this week doesn't automatically mean that you will get selected for NRL next week, for us those days are gone.

Why did the NRL and RLPA agree to go up to 36 from 30 players? Because there are injuries, rep games, HIA stand downs, suspensions etc. Plus the workload on players is so high now that there will need to be rest and recover games, where players don't play even though they aren't injured or suspended.

You want to play NRL for the Bulldogs, well you have to farkin earn it, every day, every training session and every game. Slack off and you will be found out.

If Sexton can show he can be consistent, he will be the Bulldogs half for a long time, regardless of who is coming through the ranks.
Idk red, they are touting woods as the golden child, he has a ways to go before he retains it over woods. But he’s definitely improving and hopefully he can fight for it. Would be nice to have a solid and consistent halfback.

Sexton has so much more to his game than Hutch

To me Hutch is a good squad player like he was at the Roosters, but not the main man.

His job is to fill in for Burton when he is on rep duty or if injury strikes, and give us a solid 7/10 performance and then be an experienced voice in NSW Cup to help the younger guys come through

Unfortunately for him he just isn't up to being a week in week out NRL half......Sexton can definitely be that

I can see Hutch going to EPL, yet not sure if he has the speed for the game over there.
As for the lower grade halves we've got, not all will make it to NRL level, and not all that do, will do so in the halves either!

It was known Hutch wasn’t a week in and week out half 5 years ago. Not sure why Ciraldo bothered but oh well. Hope it doesn’t cost us the 8

Am I right in thinking that a few years ago, the club admitted that Thurston had been having an affair with a junior Cowboys staffer? Did anything ever come of that? Pretty unethical and usually something that will get you sacked in this day and age .... or signed by Channel 9 as a commentator!

I get the feeling that he could defecate on The Provan-Summons Trophy and the NRL wouldn't bat an eyelid!
Hey NRL, please prove me wrong by airing this guy's dirty laundry, as an example of you no longer sweeping habitual antisocial behaviour under the rug.

Even if another club came knocking. If you are just making it work. He is better off staying and really raising his price than moving onto a who knows what situation.

After years of trying we seem to finally have the spine settled and performing. And handy backups if any of them are out at times. Having the spine right will go a long way

Will be good to see Hutchinson go around again this weekend.
Just needs to straighten up in attack and he should get his spot back.
He slayed em last weekend in reserves!
