The 1996 Manly team was arguably the best defensive team ever.

In 22 regular season games they only allowed an average of 8.68 ppg be scored against them.

Then in 3 finals games including the GF they only allowed 7.33 ppg be scored against them.

They bashed lol@souffs for 80 mins. Their line speed and intensity was one on song all game.

Panthers defence performs better when Sutton refs. He has the skinniest 10 in the game.

I thought Melbourne’s line speed was ridiculous in the 2012 grand final. Was hard to believe they maintained that intensity for the whole game. Totally took us by surprise.

Is it not someone's job to analyse the other teams and work out what they are doing, how they are doing it etc? strengths/weaknesses. I'm seeing some good suggestions/theories in here so why isn't some team analyst picking up stuff like this? And/or providing other ideas around it.

Unless they started doing in the last year, Barrett should be well versed on the techniques used, and the training required to get to it etc, etc. as well.

Knowing the techniques and having players capable of carrying out the plan can be 2 different things at some clubs.

Penrith have the cattle with the talent to do almost anything on the football field.

We have struggled to execute simple 3rd man plays because we lack the caliber of player, let alone keep that sort of commitment in defense.
