Our favourite referree has struck once again, this time at the hearts of the Americans. Referee Markus Merk has once again found himself in the spotlight with a controversial match changing penalty being awarded to the Ghanans.

Ghana was also unhappy with Merk after he yellow-carded midfielder Michael Essien, meaning the Chelsea star will miss his side's second round match with Brazil because he was already on one yellow card.
