Ragnick's first team selection and formation will be interesting to say the least.

Just watched a video where he states how much he dislikes sideways and backwards passing.
4-2-2-2 is his go to formation. I love the way his team are able to collapse the midfield when defending and the only way to beat them is out wide.

That's good because shoring up the defence must be number 1 on the things to do list

Those who don’t defend or dont want to defend when the team is transitioning in defence will more than likely not be starting with Rangnick.

When Rangnick was DOF at Leipzig, Hasenhuttl, the current Southampton manager was their coach at the time and Leipzig had conceded 59 goals in a season, Rangnick let Hasenhuttl go and took over the coaching role and the next season they let in only 29 goals across the season with the same defence.

You’re scared because we signed Klopps dad
I like that Ragnick has been talked up but doesn’t really have the resume for all the fanfare .
He has never really worked for big club before , nor has he won any major trophy .
He’s only lasted 2 years on average wherever he has worked, yet the spin on is he is the father of geggenpressing and the creator of geggenpressing when names like like Hitzfeld and Heynkes are overlooked.
Unlike Klopp, Tuchel, Nagelsmann and Hansi Flick for example Ragnick has never hired by a big club, except for now and he was hardly the first choice.
So his appointment at Man Utd is also a challenge for him too, as its his first big gig.
Will he improve your clubs fortunes? That remains to be seen , what is certain though is that under Ragnick the style of football will be different and the roster will be transformed.
Ronaldo will be getting reduced game time under him , and unless Bruno transforms his game he will end up on the bench and on the transfer list .

The way I see it is, taking over a third division side and getting them promoted to the first division in consecutive years, and then challenging for the league in your first year in the bundesliga is a whole lot more impressive than taking over Bayern and winning the league, etc.

He was the person who identified the likes of Mane, Kimmich, Upamecano, Keita etc, and he had the foresight to sign Haaland even before he really exploded into the player he went on to become. He now has the keys to a scouting network bigger than all his previous clubs combined.

He has rejected offers from Chelsea and Spurs within the past year. He was close to signing for AC Milan until a dispute at the 12th hour. And we will never know if he was or wasnt the first choice for the job, but we do know our football director John Murtourgh went to Germany in 2019 to spend time with Rangnick, so he was admired by the club.

The obsession with Ronaldo and pressing is so weird.

Since he has signed, all our wins have come with him starting, and every time he hasn't started, we have failed to win. He has scored the decisive goal for us FOUR times in a row in the champions league. We literally would have a grand total of 0 points without him.

Rangnick has deployed strikers such as Ronaldo in his teams before, he signed a 35 year old Raul for Schalke. All Ronaldo will be expected to do is cut the passing lanes between the centre backs, minimal running is required. Its the same way Bayern use Lewandowski, Inter and now Chelsea use Lukaku, Benzema at Madrid etc

Ronaldo is one of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen, he will be just fine.

I agree with you regarding the promotion of football clubs , it’s the sign of a good coach and good work when a coach can take a take a club and advance them categories.
Klopp did this also with Mainz , but he then moved up the coaching ranks by testing and challenging himself at bigger clubs. Rangnick has never tested himself to date at a bigger club or a stronger league.
Many coaches would not reject the opportunity to work at clubs like Chelsea or Milan, but Ragnick apparently declined that challenge and only he knows why.

The names you mentioned that he scouted are all hardworking or strong players , there’s a pattern there and it’s indicative of the sort of players he wants in his team .

He’s had 2 spells at Schalke and was sacked the first time, he only won the cup so you can hardly consider his tenure successful if he got punted, with or without Raul up front. He also cited stress related issues during his tenure so if he could not handle the pressures of the German league good luck dealing with the demands of a club like Man Utd.
That’s probably why he’s only a caretaker until the end of the season and someone else will take over and he will move to non coaching position the following season.

Ronaldo will be safe with Rangnick this season , I just think his minutes will be reduced to get more longevity out of him. The following season though will be intersting what he does with him . Ronaldo will want to play, he always wants to play.

The one that should be worried is Bruno, he’s neither a physically strong player , nor has a motor on him and doesn’t really transition when the team defends. Surplus to requirements Im thinking .
Time will tell though , he may turn him around and get the best out of him but this season Bruno has been a flop.

The types of Sancho will definitely see more game time with Rangnick on the bench .
