You should learn the actual story surrounding Ragnar Lothbrook. It's pretty entertaining. The character of Ragnar was based on a story written by the Icelandic people. There's a heap of stories about him as a hero of combat who defeated a dragon, had a bunch of kids (the ones from the show), but in the original stories he only invaded England once and it was just him and a small crew with two boats. He was immediately captured by the King and thrown in the snake pit to die.

Funny thing. Lagartha is only mentioned in one story. She was listed as his 3rd wife and didn't give him any kids. The only details it provided was that she fought on the front lines with the men.

The rest of the story is pretty accurate. He had two other wives, became king, had 5 sons (instead of 4) include Bjorn Ironside, Siguerd snake in the eye (who had a literal snake for an eye), Ivar the Boneless who was literally boneless, etc.

All historians are sure that the guy never existed and he's based on a bunch of historical figures.
