lomax is overrated, its pretty much out of parra and roosters
Not that it would stop them as people have pointed out but they bought Mark Nawa from the wallabies so he might slot into the centres with Billy Smith. They don’t really need Lomax.

Bro they’re loaded with talent. Their Flegg team played in the final against us last year and this year sitting top 4 or thereabouts

With the market this bare, maybe the paper bags aren't holding enough.

Good on him. Right move for his career, and if he is injury free his payday will come eventually. Crazy the Panthers production line. Seems anyone they lose the next cab off the rank is as good or better. They lose Stephen Critchon, Mansour, Staine, Laurie and they uncover To'o, Critta (now with us), May, Edwards, Turuva, Tago. Talk about a production line...... Alamoti will be lucky to make the 22 man squad :p lol
Hopefully we aren't too far from being at that point with junior production. We've improved massively there. Just have to transition the talent and keep them loyal.

That’s what I’m thinking too. Took Panthers 5-6 years to start churning them out but now it’s like one leaves and 2 stepping up type of thing.

But let’s sack Gus. Pathways…… what’s that :p

You need the right NRL coach above and beyond anything else. Melbourne and Penrith have showed this. Without Ivan Cleary the best Penrith would have finished in those years is 5th. They did make top 4 the only year Cleary was left alone during his first stint as coach and he achieved that despite his preferred choice for 9 being released to another club before the season started where he found out via a newspaper article. Cleary cleaned out so much on and off the field that had to be done removing lots of players and officials including one who unleashed on a podcast that doesn’t get much ratings. Cleary changed Yeo from a second row to lock. Too wasn’t getting a game he saw talent in him that others didn’t. Too wasn’t deemed tall enough previously Cleary over ruled all that tag. Luai finally got his chance. Had Ivan not come back no way Nathan stays. As Ivan said when he first walk back into the club in 2018 the club was dysfunctional.

People have their strengths and they have their weaknesses. Clubs with strong management identify and spot this and act accordingly putting people into roles of their strengths and taking away the jobs they’re weak at. This is where I do have confidence in Adam Druissi and now Aaron Warburton to begin implementing as they settle into a new chair and leader at the club. Druissi is a businessman first, fan second, he knows about putting people into roles of their strengths and act above both emotion which fans always act on first and also he will be comfortable not to be reactive.

Roosters are actually quite sustainable using brown paper bags.... They are an environmentally friendly mob and should be praised for taking the initiative to save the world!
Correct @Marki also to the Roosters they haven’t filled their required top 30 spots until the last moment they needed too and kept their development spots at 4 rather than the max of 6. This does free up money. They also don’t pay for players to play for other clubs.

Since Cleary returned to Penrith only one player he has signed has left Penrith with a contract still pending for the next season but that player had a clause he could leave if a better offer came about a year before being Paul Momirovski and Penrith happy to let him go with Staines and May emerging. Cleary did let some others go they weren’t signed by him though.

Roosters don’t pay for players to play at other clubs. Penrith used too play for players to be elsewhere they don’t now.

Melbourne have to play by the rules. They decide their cap goes into 3 now 4 positions. Munster originally didn’t want to play 5/8 when Slater returned. Bellamy had to spend time convincing him it was the right career move.

We unfortunately are paying for players not to be with us. The person releasing them elsewhere either signed them or re signed them in the first place. How do we stop making these repeated mistakes?

Last year we had contracted players Davey, Reynolds, Brown and Clarke that didn’t see out the season.

This year players who were Top 30 or Development contract that are longer in the Top 36 are Pele, RFM, Quai Ward, Montgomery, Gabreal, BBO, Hoffman. We would no doubt be paying portions of what their NRL deals would be. It might only be small and others have been moved to NSW Cup deals it still comes off the NRL cap as that’s what their deals are. All small bits add up. No player or anyone in any job leaves voluntarily and says I don’t want the money. Someone like Gabreal we aren’t paying a cent as he got a better deal but others even if it’s 20% we have to pay it all adds up bits and pieces here and there.

Unfortunately it shows with still such high turnover and players meant to be on deals for last year or this year that haven’t seen them through shows poor judgement in the recruitment & retention process to begin with. Most of those players aren’t NRL standard they were still signed or re signed in 2022-23. Way too much rolling of the dice and hoping they might come off. You can gamble once maybe twice with your roster anymore starts to become unhealthy.

We still haven’t addressed the 1 and 7, there’s the odd doubt over the best position for our no6 and we’ve downgraded the 9.

It's not ideal the chopping and changing of our roster and could be described as frenetic, but still see no evidence we are paying out amounts on contracts on players who have left.

And there's no evidence we aren't either. I do know one thing. Players bar TPJ just don't walk away for fun. They still have to be paid their contract out of the salary cap. Even though BBO and Hoffman are now on NSW Cup deals the outstanding amount of the NSW Cup deal is coming off the NRL cap. It might only be small amounts it adds up. Broncos haven't put Quai-Ward on any NRL or Development deals we still have to pay the outstanding amounts. We were desperate to rid ourselves of RFM there's little doubt there we are coughing up 50%. We were desperate to rid ourselves of JMK although Gus never signed him or re-signed him. I don't think letting go JMK was a good call. We are still making poor recruitment and retention decisions if we are letting go players under contract whether we pay 1% or more than 50% of the freight.

I do have confidence Adam Druissi and Aaron Warburton will make the right decisions when it comes to our NRL recruitment and retention structures in due course and putting in people to perform to their strengths.

Even Cotric signed for 3 years and was released. But that’s probably off the cap now?

Can't think of many lol. That wasn't the point tho. The fact that we have had to clear out players is not ideal...but it has been necessary.

Wasn't JMK off contract?
