The axe has been hovering over Sharp's head for several weeks. The board's patience finally snapped after Sunday's defeat at Harlequins that plunged the Black and Whites to second bottom of the table.

Chief executive James Rule, already under fire for allowing Hull to field an ineligible player in two rounds of the Challenge Cup, has put Richard Agar in charge for Sunday's visit of St Helens.
Hull narrowly escaped being thrown out of the competition but could still pay a heavy fine.
Agar may also come into the frame as Sharp's long-term successor though a lack of head coach experience at the highest level may count against him.
