Depends if ASADA lodge cause notices. If they come sometime soon, Daley will have even less to pick from.

Are we still considering Tamou a definite? He's been pretty average lately.

We need Tupou to play, he's a very good player.

He was average in the test match.

The only hope for NSW is that QLD play poorly.
Honestly it is starting to feel like the only hope we really have is if Queensland forfeit the series. What's it now 8 in a row for the cane toads? Number 9 on it's way. * shakes head *

BIRD IS CHALLENGING THE BAN.

Bird charge questions NRL consistency

NSW star Greg Bird's State of Origin campaign goes on the line at the NRL Judiciary on Wednesday night, as NRL players express widespread confusion at the consistency of the game's crackdown on dangerous lifting tackles.
League bosses had no choice but to improve ways of eradicating the potentially devastating lifting tackle from the game after the Alex McKinnon tragedy.

However their handling of the sensitive issue has been criticised by some players for its irregularity.

The first major test case since the crackdown is Bird, who faces the prospect of being ruled out for the entire Origin series with a six-week ban if he's unsuccessful with a bid for a downgrade at Rugby League Central on Wednesday.

Manly forward Anthony Watmough spoke out in defence of his NSW teammate, pointing out that when sentencing Melbourne prop Jordan McLean to a seven-week suspension earlier in the season for his tackle on McKinnon, the NRL took into account the severity of the Newcastle forward's spinal injury.

If Bird fails in his bid for a downgrade he will cop a six-week ban and miss the entire State of Origin series, despite the man on the receiving end, South Sydney's Bryson Goodwin, landing on his back and getting up unhurt from the tackle.

Watmough questioned whether there was an inconsistency in the NRL's interpretation.

"There was no malice, no harm. So if they take into account the player's injuries in one case, why don't they take into account that this player wasn't injured? He (Goodwin) got up and tried to start a fight," said Watmough.

"There was no injury. It was a copybook tackle so I don't think he should have been penalised as harshly as he did.

"He seemed to just pick him up and put him on his back. It didn't look like he was in a dangerous position where I'm from. It's a tackle that's been in the game for 100 years."

If Bird successfully has his charge downgraded to a grade two, he will only miss Origin I.

Gold Coast will highlight "examples" of other lifting tackles and are likely to argue that Bird's tackle wasn't as bad as Wests Tigers' centre Tim Simona's challenge on Titan Aiden Sezer at Leichhardt Oval two weeks ago.

Simona put his hand between the legs and Sezer landed on his head, yet the Tiger only copped a grade two charge.

The Titans are disappointed Bird's been charged with a grade three when there was no hand between the legs and Goodwin landed on his back first.
South Sydney star Sam Burgess says players are well aware that there's been an NRL crackdown but admits he is still confused by the mechanics of its enforcement.

"I just question whether you get some of the game's best players in terms of Greg Bird sitting out for a long time," he said.

"I think six weeks is a long time. I'd hate to see him miss Origin.

"It's a tough one. As a player, you've got to play by the rules.

"But on the other side of it, Bryson got up walking and played the rest of the game."

The Rabbitohs will also be at the judiciary for a similar incident on Wednesday, with hooker Apisai Koroisau challenging the grading of a grade two dangerous throw charge which could see him miss three weeks.

Bird's downgrade means he misses this week's match against the Broncos and then next week against the Warriors. Can someone explain to me then why he can't play Origin which is after the Titans's Warriors game? Suspensions usually finish at midnight on a Monday. Origin 1 is less than 48 hours after this.

The downgrade was ok but he had to do some time for it. It was once considered a good tackle but a few more inches over and Goodwin could have broken his neck. The NRL said they would crack down and if they let him off for it then they'd look as weak as usual. That said, Melbourne had several tackles beyond the horizontal that weren't even penalised.

On another note, don't know if anyone watched that terrible NRL 360 show last night but Paul Kent said that he has inside info that Pearce won't be picked for origin and that Hodkinson will most likely be picked.

Not that Paul Kent is ever accurate about anything but if true it could be difficult series for the Dogs but a great series for NSW.

A NSW team that would scare Queensland fans

By Owen Whish, 15 May 2014 Owen Whish is a Roar Rookie

So its Origin time again, and over the past few years we Queensland fans find ourselves diving into the debate of selection – NSW selection that is.
Why? Well, its quite simple. The Queensland side is solid as a rock, with only a few positions under scrutiny based on form.
The NSW team clearly needs to take a new direction and make some changes.
Sure, many of the die hards say that this current setup has bridged the gap as the 2012 and 2013 series were decided by one and two points respectively. But the problem is that Queensland is still on top.
So here’s my team, with an explanation as to why these selections scare Queenslanders.

1. Fullback – Brett Stewart
You only need to look back at 2012 series where he scored one try in game 1, and two tries in Game 2. He is the best supporting fullback in the league and is up there on try assists.
There have been calls for Josh Dugan to be selected. The man has don’t nothing to warrant selection. He dropped a sitter in last year’s series in support which could have made the difference. Maybe in a few years he will be ready, but right now he is not an Origin player.

2. Wing – Brett Morris
There is no denying B. Morris as a finisher and defender.

3. Centre – Josh Morris
Undoubtedly one of the only men in league to have some sort of control defending the likes of Greg Inglis.

4. Centre – M. Jennings
There is no denying MJ played well last year, and deserves to retain his spot.

5. Wing – Jarryd Hayne
Although defending on the wing, I would have Hayne as an integral part of the attack structure. He needs to be in the back line, however I do not believe he has the positional qualities that B. Stewart has out the back.

6. Five-eighth – Josh Reynolds
Origin is won on true grit, effort and guts. There is no denying Reynolds possesses the qualities to guts out a win.
He may not be as technically skilled as a few of the other contenders, he does however overcome this with his determination. Hands down needs to be the starting pivot.

7. Halfback – Trent Hodkinson
There are a few reasons he’s in here.
He can kick goals, field goals, has guts and determination and is up towards the top of the Dally M count. Oh, and he partners with Reynolds at club level.

8. Paul Gallen
The man’s a metres-munching machine, but he should not be captain. NSW needs a captain who will tell him to pull his head in and play football, and not give away so many penalties.

9. Robbie Farah
Theres no question Farah deserves this spot.

10. Aaron Woods
Has earned his spot by beating up some big packs this year. Will need to go into the game with the same mindset.

11. Ryan Hoffman
Although down on form, he is a big-game player with big game experience

12. Boyd Cordner
Has proven himself over the last 12 months as a good back rower and deserves this spot. Needs to stay off the grog and concentrate on the game, but should be in the side.

13. Luke Lewis
The man has the experience, and should be the starting lock.

14. Anthony Watmough
No explanation needed for the Sea Eagle.

15. Willie Mason
A mature Mason brings some inspiration and experience to the NSW pack.

16. James Tamou
Not enough grunt in him to start the game. However he is a good choice on the bench.

17. Trent Merrin
Tried and tested, the Dragon should make the squad.

This team would take the fight to the Queensland pack, especially with the size on the bench which is complemented by the speed and agility of the backs.
I hope the selectors pick on form this year, as even though as a Queenslander I thoroughly have enjoyed the last eight years.
It is however getting a little stale knowing that these victories generally haven’t been against NSW’s best.

Lewis would be a gamble. Hasn't he only played one game this year?

As far as the Fullback position goes, it depends what NSW wants. If they want an attacking fullback then you're looking at Brett Stewart or Josh Dugan. If you want another play maker then you look at Jarryd Hayne. Daley has stated that he wants Hayne at fullback which shows that he wants to play a more controlling game. I tend to agree. Hayne's flaw though is that he's not used to playing with others. The moment others start controlling the game he starts making errors.

The Grill Team/Triple M have put up who they think should be in the NSW. No surprise they've all picked Pearce/Maloney combo. Interestingly everyone picked T-Rex and MG picked Josh Jackson.
