I was recently diagnosed with rosacea by my dermatologist. Rosacea can cause acne-like breakouts, visible blood vessels on the face, and dry, irritated eyes and is a common skin condition for fair skinned people over the age of 25 (also known as adult acne).

My case is very mild (basically I flush more frequently then most and when I get the odd small pimple the redness hangs around much longer).

Anyway, it's not curable and gets worse when left untreated.

Does anyone have this as well? What type of changes did you make to your skin care and diet? What were the results?

I have been told to give up things like hot showers with steam, spicy foods, hot drinks/ soups, spirits, living in Australia (sun) lol.

I would really like to find out what has worked well for peeps :grinning:

Might be a good idea to also search online forums and blogs for people primarily discussing rosacea/skin conditions.

There would be hundreds of different opinions/treatments/results available to you through those discussions - much more than here.

Good luck.

gnaw that's for the support! lol I think I might have made it sound worse than it is :S it's quite common with fair skin people and the severity drastically varies. I just like to have very healthy looking skin.

Yep, I have been checking out a few pages just thought it might be interesting to discuss if any one else has got it here :grinning:

i have a mild case of it

just a bit of redness between the eyes and either side of my nose

i use a prescribed gel (rozex) and drink plenty of water and shower regularly - i'm all good.

the redness never really flares up unless i get lazy with any of that and i drink plenty of water everyday anyway

Yep I have a prescription of clindamycin 1% in cetaphil lotion. I was skeptical about it b/cos I had to stop using all my other (expensive) skin care products and this one is as cheap as chips. After just one week, my skin has never looked better!! It looks like porcelain I love it!

Goes to show the premiums you pay on brand name cosmetics.

I have a doxycycline (pills) prescription too which I am yet to start but hopefully this means I don't have to give up ridiculous things like hot showers and alcohol!!

Ive heard alkaline water is very good for this condition and has many other health benefits too, keen to give that a go!

I would recommend going to see a good dermatologist. I wish I did it years ago instead of trying to guess what worked best for my skin and wasting loads of $$$

My skin has never looked better tbh. They know what they are talking about and they give you the real good prescription stuff that is waaaaaaay cheaper (and much more effective) than the brand name stuff you buy and try for yourself. Just my two cents :grinning:

Oh i definetly should, im bit of an emu and bury my head in the sand hoping the problem go's away, but after like 8 years having the same bullsh*t its getting frustrating, but i really hate doctors of any sort, white coat syndrome lol. I just hate the thought of it being something serious, but i definetly need to get it checked cause i suffer bad back pain from it.

Salt water/beach is great, when I had bad skin in high school it would clear it up alot or at least make it less visible just make sure you dont let your skin dry out to much. Acne is generally internal so there is not allot you can do other than take medication to clear it up. Most of those skin products are like snake oil, Back in high school my mum bought me all these crazy expensive skin products and they never did shit.

Hot showers will generally aggravate your skin which isnt good. Go buy a soap free derma wash and dont scrub to hard either.
