I honestly don't know the role of the 8 or 9 commissioners on the panel. The only one with football nouse is Wayne Pearce. He should be the one with the loudest voice on why this stinks.

if the nrl are going to be this strict with high shots, they're going to have to reward leg tackles better
Yep great point!
It is criminal how you get significantly disadvantaged by the interpretation of the rules if you put on a beautiful low shot these days!!

Cancelling Kayo wont help that much probably? Not sure. Its the betting revenue losses that will have the most impact...and whinging on social media :grinning:

Go on the NRLol sites and have your say everybody if you feel strongly about this.
Well a lot of people only have Fox/Kayo for the NRL. If they got thousands of cancellations due to people being sick of what's happened to the league, then that will surely get their attention

They will discover the fans hate the new interpretation of the rules and they will back down on it by next round. In the meantime they will need more seating in the sin bin

yep. They do this shit all the time. Before the 6 again rule it was penalty penalty penalty there for the start of the season for a year or 2. That was the beginning of this shit. They have now made a multitude of changes often on the run during the season and totally changed the game.
What have they got to show for it?
8 sinbins in 2 games and blow out scorelines. A competition that you know from round 1 who will be in the GF.
Thats what its come too.
The game is well and truley fucked.

‘I think if they do change back for once it will be a FAN lead change ,
all those other changes that they backtracked were that they were scared of media articles and whinging refs

for once I have never seen the entire fan base of the game outraged (without prodding from media too as they been fairly circumspect on the crackdown so far )

Funnily enough you can get penalised in some instances for tackling around the legs.

Well done V'landys.. You speed up the game and then drag it down into a 2 hour snooze fest.. That what you get for bowing down to rorters...

time for a super league-esk protest, lets go lads :p
Cant be us. Power for any change all held with the Top 4 teams.

According to Vlad us bottom teams are just whingers, poorly run who cant run their clubs as well as Rorters and Storm and need to copy them.

All true but harder done than said, as many have pointed out with examples on here.

He made sure the bottom 12 teams in the NRLol have lost any relevence they may have had.

Really don't think the clubs had the chance to have any say on the matter. His royal highness made the direction himself and TOLD the clubs that that is how it was going to be....

The fault should be laid directly at the feet of the NRL and its officials for being so lax in enforcing what we have all been told are the rules and have been the rules for many tears.

You will never ever eliminate head hits in the NRL which is a heavy body contact sport simply because of the nature of the game. You cannot know from one minute to the next how a player will run into the defensive line, whether they might duck or slip. What you can do is get rid of the truly deliberate ones committed with intent but not the accidental ones.

NRL referees have been told to treat high-contact like punching and sin-bin any player who makes direct contact with an opponent's head.

Key points:
  • Referees will send any player guilty of direct or forceful contact to the head to the sin-bin
  • Players have been charged for contact to the head and neck 700 per cent more this year than in 2017
  • Peter V'Landys likened the crackdown on high shots to the elimination of punching in matches
In an extension of the game's heavy crackdown on high shots, players will spend time off the field for any forceful or direct contact with the head or neck.

Send-offs have also been encouraged for particularly forceful contact despite just seven players being marched in the past seven-and-a-half years.

Discretion will remain with the referees, but ARL Commission chairman Peter V'landys confirmed they have been told to enforce the edict.

The decision comes after a rapid rise in high tackles this year.

The number of players charged for contact with the head or neck was up 700 per cent over the opening six rounds compared with the 2017 season.

A total of 14 players were also charged last week, the most on record at the NRL dating back to 1999.

"We will not tolerate any hit above the shoulder, the head or the neck region,'' V'landys told 2GB on Friday.

The NRL took a similar approach with punching in 2013, making it an automatic sin-bin after Paul Gallen's strike on Nate Myles in State of Origin.

The league had told clubs last week there was going to be a crackdown on high shots, encouraging referees to use the sin-bin.

However, that direction fell flat, with just one player sin-binned for high contact despite the record number of charges.

But V'landys said the message was now clear and would be enforced.

"It's never been allowed to hit anyone in the head. Never in the game's history," he said.

"All we need to do now is really enforce it, and we will.

"If it's intentional around the head, we want them to be sin-binned or sent off.

"We don't want players out for weeks on end because of foul play, even accidental play — you do not hit around the head or neck.

"That's not going to be tolerated."

"Any foul play will be penalised heavily, we're going to get all that out of the game.
"We did that many years ago with punching by using the sin-bin.

"You don't see punching anymore, you don't see spear tackles anymore, you don't see many shoulder charges anymore.

"And we're just as determined to get rid of any knock around the head."

Roosters Cows game was actually not too bad, until the Cows binning about 60th min, Burr I think. Big impact, kinda killed the game from a casual fan perspective. Not sure it even deserved a penalty, let alone a sin binning.

I think it is going to come down to the fans to return the game back to what it use to be.

I can see all fans from all clubs banding together and demanding to give our game back to what it was and vent how we dissaprove of the way the game has changed otherwise the threat of memberships and attendances will fall dramatically

The NRLOL don't seem to understand that accidents occur in this world & game.

I'd hate to see Vlandy's running a state of territory because if you had a car accident you'd be sent to jail & if someone walked in front of your car you'd be executed.

He may have done a good job in getting the game going again but other than that he has been a dismal failure.

I almost want Gallop or Greenturd back; almost.
