Have to hand it to Gus, No marquee signings as yet but getting Patolo, Hughes and Knight to sign very short term deals is some handy work. The players and managers would have been pushing hard for 2 and 3 year deals so to keep these all to 24 only is pretty impressive. Really makes me think they are planning someone big for 25....Maybe Haas?
And you just know he’s saying show us what you can do on that time and then the $$$ and length of contract will come, covered some depth and didn’t destroy the cap this is new for the dogs

When Hughes is on the field the opposition scoring dries up. 98% tackle success. Have a look at his peers who are on much more and are nowhere near as effective. Let’s give these younger men some more game time to see if they can produce week in week out instead of playing musical chairs.

Had a shocking year due to injury. Hope he can stay injury free and have a full pre-season training.
He has had injury after injury since he left cronulla - most of 22 was out injured - lots of potential upside with keeping him.

Not sure if you have had a chance to see him play in cup live but he is huge up close. He’s got a lot of potential

Seen him live in games quite a few times - mainly flegg last year n a few nsw cup this year - hard to notice on tv but when at games you notice he gets to where he needs to be in defence, even if not required to make a tackle. Damon Marshall, although no where as big gets into his defensive positons really well for a middle - or at least has done in flegg n sgball where the game is slower.

Yeah I noticed that too about him. Moves really well on his feet for a big lad.
There’s a few really good players that I hope make the jump from flegg or cup into grade over the next couple years. The problem we have is the first grade team isn’t up to scratch. It’s really important to have a high quality grade team for the juniors to ensure they’re competing at training etc.

I like the re-signing of Hughes, loads of potential and plenty of time up his sleeve. Not much signed beyond 2024 in the FR department, must be something big brewing?

Now he just needs to work on his conditioning and string a few games together so we can truly see what he has to offer.

Yet to play more than 15 mins in a single game. This extension feels a little hasty but I can see there is at least some promise with him. Good frame

He had this run on the weekend that really stood out.

Not to mention, it's on the very next play that we shift to Averillo, who works his magic to score.

Hughes has definitely gone under the radar, even in the games he's played for us, but if he gets his fitness right (assuming that's why he's only been used for small stints), he'd definitely be a solid asset for us.

When he’s in the team, our forward balance/Size looks much better, underused imo this year, he’s a keeper
