Sam Burgess neck injury

He is in St Vinnies, if any of the Doctors there see anything that worries them, they will recommend that he can't play. No club is going to ignore something like that, because if they play him and something does go wrong, they will be serious trouble.

If the people at St Vinnies don't say that he can't play, then he will, whatever it takes to get onto the field.

Honestly if the specialists say don't play anymore then thats it sealed and delivered because who is Burgess, Souths or the NRL so question the decision of someone who is specialist in the field with all those years of Uni and practicing?

It would be sad to see Burgess forced out of the game or anything worse but this is something serious he has to look at for his long term well being, he has made plenty of money from the NRL and should be able to retire comfortably if that is the decision.

As I said .. incident was overhyped as f**k.

Media are going on like he was decapitated or something. Reality is that it was all precautionary.

Initial scan results are positive. Thank you all for messages of support - feeling extremely lucky tonight. A few days of rest now. Sam

There you have it.. read between the lines there. He is fine and he will play Friday.

I hope the guy is okay as you never want to see that - BUT did you see the part when they showed the mum crying.. Some chick covered her face in disgust as if to say "don't show her now in this state her son could be hurt - have respect" F*CK OFF!! I actually totally agree with what i just typed about respect BUT these girls lap up the media coverage any other time trying to get as much publicity to get those well paid magazine interviews. So it's my belief that you want to make $ out of being famous then you take the media coverage through the good bad and ugly.

PS this Eels avatar is making me grumpy..

PPS Anyone think my post is cold watch when his mum does a well paid interview about the day i thought my son became paralysed.

Dead set you'd think he was dying the way ch9 was carrying on. Absolute joke.

Obviously nobody wants to see that on a football field, but the way ch9 kept giving updates through the news, really?

Personally I want this cuntrash to play us on Friday, that way Bupa can break his other fucking cheekbone!

Yep as I said from the beginning, it was all precautionary. If it was bad you'd have known before he was off the field and on the medicab, like with other incidents like that in the past.

Being played up by Souths and the media.

Will be named on Tuesday on extended bench and "in doubt" before being confirmed an hour before kick off.

As a mother myself, I wouldn't have been sitting in the stand crying I would have run down and probably tried to get on the field if not then wait by the ambulance and go to the hospital with him.

Tell me about it, it is sad to see a player get hurt but the way they carried on even in the commentary it was like he did pass... You even had commentators sounding like they were crying.

Yeh, have to agree, the comments about how disgusting it is for the cameras to show a crying mother where hard take seriously.... Was the media using her tears to add drama and get ratings? sure..... was the media used by the Burgess family before to add fame and money? also sure. If you do one, you have to accept the other, its only fair.

Think it was more than just a bit of a stinging hit though, Sam did play a game with a broken cheek, not sure he'd be on the ground distressed as he was if it just hurt a little. No serious injury is good news, but there had to be some kind of injury there I suspect.

Scans clear Rabbitohs' Sam Burgess of serious injury after sickening collision

South Sydney NRL star Sam Burgess has been cleared of serious injury to his neck or spine, and is expected to be released from hospital on Monday or Tuesday. Burgess will continue to be monitored for any muscle and neurological issues after being taken from the field on a stretcher in the Rabbitohs’ 8-6 loss to St George Illawarra at the SCG on Sunday. A statement released by the club claimed MRI and CT scans showed no damage to the vertebrae or spinal cord. “We’re all very happy to know that Sam hasn’t suffered any serious injuries from yesterday’s game,” Souths coach Michael Maguire said. “We will continue to monitor Sam’s welfare and he knows he is in the best of hands with our medical staff as we move forward.” Burgess took to social media from hospital on Sunday night to hint at the good news. “Initial scan results are positive. Thank you all for messages of support – feeling extremely lucky tonight. A few days of rest now. Sam,” he tweeted. Burgess was injured when he ducked his head as he charged towards the Dragons line early in the second half, with the game stopped for an extended period before he was taken from the field.

I don't really think it has been played up any more than any other serious neck injury. At the time, they had no idea if it was career-ending or not, and many of us are happy to hear that it appears there is no serious damage. And Burgess is also one of the most reputable players in the game, so it's not surprising that there was a decent amount of coverage.

Some of you need to get a grip and realise that it's not all about the Bulldogs and the big bad media.

So dumb .. When someone says 'the scan results are positive' it means whatever they were testing for ..for example ,damage to the spinal cord , fractures etc has been found ...NOT good news but I guess he didn't know that

It wasn't just a tweet though, it was a tweet detailing results of the scans and the condition of his neck/spine after the incident. You just trivialized something to push your underlying point, sound familiar?

Yeah like i said, front page news, this is the most important world event today.

SOUTH Sydney star fullback Greg Inglis says Sam Burgess will want to play in his side’s Good Friday clash against the Bulldogs but it’s not likely.

Burgess was injured in the 51st minute of the Rabbitohs clash with the Dragons at the SCG but was this morning cleared of any serious neck injury.

Inglis told the Daily Telegraph he’d spoken with Burgess this morning

“He seems upbeat. He is just a bit uncomfortable in a hospital bed. You know, his feet are hanging six inches over the bottom,” Inglis said.

“If you ask Sammy (about playing on Friday) he will say ‘yes’ but we have to put him through the right medical procedures with this injury, especially around the neck.”
