1) Clubs sell only 10 home games to season ticket holders and move sold out blockbuster matches to bigger stadiums.
Disagree. I like the idea of teams playing in front of their home grounds in front of a big crowd.
There are exceptions of course, when the demand is indeed showing.
2) Dump the McIntyre finals system and take up the AFL system where the top four sides are guaranteed a second chance. Play all finals at neutral venues.
Agreed, top four teams don't get enough reward for finishing above the other four teams. Gallop's argument to keep it as is, is ridiculous.
3) Do the entire draw in advance with days of the week nominated at the start of the year so fans can plan flights and weekends.
No, can't be Nostradamus and predict the blockbuster games. It's tough for fans to schedule travel for matches ahead but I think the current model works.
4) Introduce 5-point tries if they are scored in first three tackles of a set. Will take away the boredom of five hit-ups and a kick.
No, it should be for 7s
5) Introduce golden try instead of golden point. Teams would thrown the ball about instead of hitting up for a field goal.
Yes, would prefer teams to go for the jugular, instead of kicking field goals 50m away. It would spark things up and keep fans anxious
6) Bring in Central Coast and a second Brisbane team. Extra game could be played as viewers choice on Sunday afternoons at 2pm.
A team definitely needs to be on the Central Coast (either the Bears or relocation) and demand for a fourth team in QLD may warrant one. A team in the western states needs to be introduced, but whether it will be financially stable in the long term is another call.
7) Break the competition into two conferences. The Sydney clubs in one and the out-of-towners in the other. Winner of each conference plays in grand final.
No, it won't work
8) Play Origin on weekends. English Premier League takes a break for internationals without worrying about TV rights.
Yes, making Origin standalone would make it an even bigger sporting event throughout the year. The marketing of the event would attract more sponsors and generate interest during the week.
The only downside is whether the NRL wants teams to have 3 byes during a season. It would definitely benefits teams who have heavily represented players playing in SOO.
9) Scrap City v Country - it’s a total waste of time.
I'd keep it but where would one schedule it. The people in the country would love to see more rep football.
It was a farce to see it up against the test match this year.
10) Play three games a year at the Sydney Cricket Ground between traditional rivals.
Don't mind this idea, if it means bringing back traditional clubs playing on hallow turf, why not. It seems to work every year when matches are played at SCG and the fans enjoy watching the odd game being played there.
Only worry is the scheduling of games due to the AFL, but that can be fixed with the current scheduling format.
