I'm not sure, and I don't want to say anything that might be false. But I *name removed* went to court regarding a rumour posted on their site which used to be www.*nameremoved*.com/forums.

Yes. Google "popb itch legal action" and you'll see quite a few cases. PB still exists, and its weekly mailout of rumours and anecdotes is still worth subscribing too, but it's now a badly watered down version of it in its prime, about ten years ago. Repeated legal action did that to it.

(On a side note, one or two of its major sources were outed as mainstream (including BBC) broadcast or print journalists who leaked onto the messageboard all the stuff they knew but could never broadcast or publish).

I'm 99% certain the Dragons Army Forum got shut down because of the threat of being sued for defamation by Peter Doust.

A V8 Supercar Team owner also threatened legal action against the V8 Central Forum or some of its members for similar things. This is going back a few years now.
