Anyone who follows the AFL would have seen that this week they had a full round of games where the Clubs were all (supposedly) traditional rivals.

Its a good promo tool. I was thinking who would play eachother if they did this in the NRL.

What do you think of this:

Bulldogs v Roosters
Penrith v Parramatta
Broncos v NQ
Souths v St George
West Tigers v Manly (based on the old Wests v Manly rivalry)
Canberra v Newcastle
Melbourne v Cronulla
Warriors Bye

The last 2 aren't really rivalries, but that the best I could do.

Some variations might be:

Bulldogs v St George or Parramatta
Roosters v Souths
St George v Brisbane or Cronulla (local derby)

That looks about right ur first matchups - well at least for this year... because you have the two GFinalists from last yera matching up again, so grand final rematch of bulldog nad roostesr. And broncos and NQ state rivalary so thats always a great game to watch!!

You will find that this has been done in previous years. I just don't think it was promoted or publicised as a "rivalry round". I remember that the first round of the season was considered as the local derby match ups.

Slight variations to your suggestions:

Broncos v Cowboys
Cronulla v St George Illawarra
Penrith v Parramatta
Canterbury v Wests Tigers
Melbourne v Canberra
Roosters v Rabbitohs
Manly v Newcastle

Warriors - Bye

Doggies V Parra is our biggest rivalry behind the Roosters i'd say.

Damn straight. Dogs vs Canberra or Manly isn't far behind though.

I remember when the dogs lost to the Raiders and it must have been 2000 or 2001 from memory. Anyway Polla Mounter came out and apologised publicly to all our fans for the loss. 36 - 0 it was from memory.

Yeh I remember that, I think it might of been 32. But either way they played crap. We have a habit of getting held to nil occasionally.

If there is a rivarly round then the Dragons/Sharks have to play eachother, there supporters absolutley hate eachother, ive got friends that go for both & its huge.

*Dragons/Sharks
*Bulldogs/Tigers
*Eels/Panthers
*Broncos/Cowboys
*Souths/Roosters
*Raiders/Storm
*Manly/Knights (use 97 GF to build it up)

Warriors= bye

Same as what I had. Plus...Manly/Knights geographically closer. You'll find it all to be based on geographic regions as well as history and that's where most of the rivalries begin from

From my opinion and a non Bulldog perspective: Geographic reasons with Western Suburbs i.e Ashfield (previously) and Balmain.

If you go by any other theory it'll be too long. i.e. Bulldogs v Roosters because of the 2004 GF, Bulldogs v Manly mid 90s, Bulldogs v Parramatta - 80s etc etc etc.

It's like saying Penrith v Canberra - both dominated early 90s, Penrith v Roosters - poached Fittler and 03 GF....despite those reasons I still believe the rivalry will always exist with Parramatta due to location, which is why i believe that Bulldogs and Tigers would be the local derby.

our biggest rivals I'd say in this order would be:

roosters
dragons
eels
