Sacked Bulldogs star Reni Maitua has signed a one-year deal with the Cronulla Sharks.

The Sharks had been one of four clubs keen on the former test star.

Maitua said he wanted to stay in Sydney if possible, and was attracted by the chance to play under coach Ricky Stuart.
