Flanagan defensively made some good instinctive decisions.
Schoupp second row in a week limited his opposite strike centres from creating opportunities.

Few others like burton, dufty, tpj had their moments. Thought flannos defence was really good.

3 JAC
2 Vaughan
1 Burton/Dufty

Burtons 40/20 and the bridge ball from Dufty got us home. TPJ massive second half after a stinker first half.
Schoupp Tsikarakis King very solid. Great defensive game from the flange but nothing in attack.

Super pumped and happy but the reality is we are rubbish in attack. We looked better in attack with JJ in the team if it can be believed.

3 Ado-Carr (2 great individual plays)

2 Burton (kicked us out of trouble all night)

1 Max King (11 hitups for 94m in 43min) just because it was great to have a forward in the lock position for once hitting the ball up with great carries instead of the usual plods that Jackson brings.

Burton
JAC
TPJ

Burton's 40/20 which give us the opportunity to score that try, was the game-breaker imo. Plus that tackle effort which made thingo go into touch to disallow the final try

3 - JAC, should be credited with 2 try assists to go with his 2 tries as he did it all himself on both occasions
2 - Dufty, try assist, 5 tackle breaks, usually gets a quick PTB, 148m, and gave Cummins a spray, which almost got him all 3 points. Also 7 tackles no misses, at least 1 try saving tackle
1 - TPJ, at least two key tackles that shook the ball loose, 76 minutes, was key in the 2nd half but was in the game one way or another, the one bloke in our forwards who genuinely intimidates the opposition

Mentions
- Burto, 662 kicking metres, a brilliant 40/20, got 50 touches so was involved, fired up against the Manu et al, kicked 2 much needed conversions
- Flange, ran twice in the first 10 minutes but then went quiet in attack, however 20 tackles and no misses and was crucial in defence on our right with Tedesco and co constantly attempting raids
- Thommo, topped our tackle count, also reasonable metres and PTB speed, he was in JWH face on a regular basis
- Vaughan, most run metres of our forwards, 63 post contact, helped talk the boys through that last set of 6
- King+Tsikrikas, good shifts off the bench, I think this was King's first 40+ game for us, good metres for King especially, and they both put in good stints in defence. They gave us a lot more as interchange middles than the chooks benchies gave them

Not man of match performances but some of the 1% improvements.
* No forwards as a link. Ball going to Flannagan, Burton or Dufty. No saying they were fantastic with the possession, bit hopefully they will dispense with the Penrith scoring manual.
* Avarillo/ Okunbor. I thought they were going to leak points but generally defended well including positional.
* Stimson - came on with some effective tackles including the last ditch on Tedesco by the pants. If he does hang on, Teddy would have set up a meat pie.
* Flannagan digging into the defensive line & tackling effort. Was not dominate but needs to keep at it.

3 to JAC. Two key plays for tries, 5 tackle breaks, 163m run. His ability to hit and spin on kick returns is so good, and he embraced the captaincy with both arms like we knew he would. In a lot of ways he’s our most important player.

2 to TPJ. First half he looked cranky and I thought for sure he’d end up in the bin or hooked but Barrett (or Gus) must have had a word at halftime because he was a beast from then on and even managed to not get fired up when JWH and a few others tried to rile him up. 76 minutes played, 30 tackles, 118m run most of which were in the second half.

1 to Burton. 662 kick metres(!) and not even close to the kicking he’s capable of, 40/20 and sideline conversion that gave us back the momentum, and a try save for the ages despite being checked.

Honourable mentions to Flanagan for defending like a machine; Dufty for picking his moments; Thompson and Vaughan for massive minutes and effort.

Scoreline obviously flattered the Roosters given two of their tries came from knock ons or forward passes. They weren’t at their best but we shouldn’t underestimate how big that win was after a week under the blowtorch and some absolute howlers from the officials.
