Spoke to hubby this morning and he was disappointed with the performance but also very angry at the officiating last night. Having been to many live games myself I have no reason to doubt his comments regarding Sutton and his policing of several things last night. Tell me again. Just why do we keep getting this guy either on the field or in the box? To those watching the broadcast it was not 100% clear as to just how the Cowboys strangled the life out of our attack. Yes, we were poor, yes one player in Hutchinson needs to be taken to task over his performance ( finally coach benched him at half time when he sees just like us how poor he was) but it was the live vision that told a story…. Cowboys were given great latitude in the ten metres last night and were not once pulled up for it. Now we could hear the crowd baying for penalties and not clearly see why. That was why. In addition couple of our players had head wounds and only on replay could the reason for that be obvious..high shots. Homes double knee lift , change in gait , wounds Kiraz… commented on by the broadcast team as “ probably” an accident but no action. Kikau done for a late shot gifting Cows but replay showed it was split second and only because the Cowboy laid down did Sutton give a penalty. Result shot at goal early points. Lack of possession means lack of penalties and infringements but honestly 7-4 overall infringements / penalties to the Cows with nothing for us for ruck or inside ten. Our play the balls slower.
Will be extremely interesting to see who we get next week on the field or in the box. Unless we see a very marked improvement it will be out in straight sets for us. A good year killed by the last three games on the field.

Next weeks game will be won or lost at selection table.
If salmon and morrin are in the 17 it’s all over. Know Todd is underdone and the same for Fifita but they offer more than salmon and morrin. We need bigger middles who can bring contact and impact if we are any chance to beat eagles otherwise we will get steamrolled thru the middle.
Add underhill and hopoi into the mix too.
Have done well to get to the 8 but let’s not submit meekly. Be brave ciraldo peddling out the same plodder favourites and expecting a different result doesn’t work.

You just know it is going to be Salmon at 13.

Then it will be a snowball effect from there. We will get beaten comfortably by Manly.

Hopefully tonight was the last time we ever see Hutchison in firsts.
It's not just how mediocre he is, but the negative impact he has on the confidence of players around him.
Salmon is much the same.
Harry agreed. He has the pace of a slug, and his ability to read a game nil. We had options to move a player to the halves but instead relied on a player who started the season there in just as mediocre form. He is only suitable for NSW cup but only with solid players around him and even then only just. The coach did the right thing by replacing him at half time but the damage unfortunately had already been done. That also messes with rotation as he was taken out if the equation.

No.
Our "weapon" was scrambling well in defence and keeping teams to 3 or less tries a game.

What ive seen the last couple of weeks is a team too tired to work for each other. The team psyche had shifted and its evident.

Its fatigue, its some niggly injuries, its some new faces and its simply other teans raising their games against us.

I said afew weeks ago that we had hit our ceiling and that its not enough against teans with better spines. Im now proven right.

Even at our best, we are no real match for the top teams lifting their games in finals.

I hope we can get our best team on the park in this next Manly game and cut our errors. It will help to get our defensive confidence back and hopefully that's enough to at least compete. Unfortunately Manly have too much firepower and game styles as well as the footy nous to adjust and worry us.

He NEVER gives us discretionary or even 50/50 calls. Opposition can hold us down and interfere in ptb right up to when we put the ball on the ground (even after).

Just one example of how he massages outcomes for teams playing against us.

We can only assume it's a conscious NRLol decision to appoint him to make it as hard as possible for us to win and improve our standing in the comp. The other refs aren't much better but it's def a thing against us IMO \_(ツ)_/¯

Was totally naive, at best, to not believe Payten would be rubbing his hands together absolutely knowing 100% what Hutch as 5/8 would be doing...or not doing.

Well at least we are going to play against a good footy team in Manly and find out where our strengths and weaknesses are in a finals game.

We will learn more from that than facing a team who scraped in 8th.

Sutton did not cost us the game last night. The inept roster and lack of quality in key positions cost us the game. Gould will need to get the cheque book out if he really wants to challenge top 8 sides.

Next Week is a new game. Our forwards have aimed up against much bigger forward packs this year, including narrow losses to Storm & Panthers. Yes last two weeks were good, hopefully out of a flat spot this year. I would not be removing Morrin. He has played well this year & been an effective replacement. However
* CC should choose between Salmon & Hayward. Personally Hayward add much more value.
* our new attacking style seems to have excluded Kikau from his damaging edge running. More often accepting a reverse pass into the forwards. Get him back to scaring shit out of opposing centres.
* love to see Harry Hayes given some minutes on the edge where he was so impressive in lower grades

The one that did it for me was at the end. Tracey clearly taken in the air, drops it, and we got pinned for accidental offside. I was on L4 and could see it. We review and straight away “Tracey is contacted mid air, penalty bulldogs”. What if that’s a finals game, 2 mins to go, no challenge? Something so blatantly obvious goes against us. He’s a fucking joke of a referee. And tbh I’m disappointed the club hasn’t been stronger about voicing the issues with clear bias against us by that **** of a human being.
