I wish for this year for our quys to quickly play the ball as fast as possible.
Most teams are in our face before we get time to execute a play and that extra second or
two could provide options that would generally not present themselves.

Sorry - another matter - line defence.
A greater commitment to getting off the line.
I would also like to see consecutive pack-like line defence when the opposition
are trying to bring the ball out from their line.

The problem with both of those is referees, they give the opposition too much freedom and they give us none.

Always a Bulldog

Yeah, it's a problem - maybe our captains should constantly get into the ref's ear.
Then we'll probably get pinged for dissent.

We still don't look good enough in the catch and wrestle, we need to earn the right to hold down.

Some teams are effective in getting quick play the balls by having quick smaller players taking the ball close to the ruck and basically sacrificing a tackle. They seem to get to a single defender tackler close to the ruck.make a lot of ground on the next play.

A nice early public spray of the referees and boss from ciraldo could do wonders, it did peyton wonders for the cowboys last year. He should probably save it for next year though.

McInnes and Finucane did this against us during the trial.

if it is a surrender tackle then you lose momentum, you cant sacrifice a tackle.
what they do is not go for post contact metres and find their front to get a quick play the ball, not sacrifice a tackle.

I’d like to know how Waddle and co have got it into their heads that it’s a really smart play to one out into 3/4 defenders close to the attacking try line and get held up for 5secs 2m out.

Why minimise the distance between the lines and give the defenders time to get set?

Pele is probably the only one with a chance of breaking that line there, Waddle ain’t no Pele (closer to Tolman 2.0)

"scarificing" metres??? to get a quicker play the ball - the intent seems to avoid the wrestle, hit the ground on theirfront asap, play the ball asap. Often a penalty is earnt as well for a hold down.

This hopefully will change from years gone by. Jacko never said a word. Which always started us on the back foot with 50/50 calls. I hope Reed is like Cameron Smith cheeping away at the ref all game.

Mahoney will be good at doing this (in the mould of good 9s) but Burton is completely mute, don’t know why he is joint captain considering.

Still don't underrate why Burton is captain. The ball boy talks to the team and match officials more than Burton does.

They should have left it at Reed Mahoney - if they wanted to do co-captains, surely it’s Mahoney/Fox or Mahoney/King.
If you watch Fox wired up, the bloke is constantly rallying the boys, shouting instructions and setting standards… Burton looks like he’s in cruise mode.
