An article back from September last year.

Premiership winning coach Chris Anderson says the Bulldogs have made a massive mistake signing Kieran Foran.

After a disappointing season with the Warriors, Foran signed a three-year-deal with Canterbury, starting next season.

Anderson, who won premierships with the Bulldogs and Storm, says the risk is too great for his old side.

"I think he's a tremendous footballer," he told Seven News.

"But I don't think he's a great investment.

"He's had four clubs in four years - it'd be hard to be confident about that investment."

Anderson continued, saying he hasn't been impressed by current coach Des Hasler.

"It hasn't been pleasant for the last couple of years," he said.

"The players look worn out.

"They look tired mentally and I think Des is trying too hard.

"I haven't seen him (Josh Reynolds) improve a lot over the last four years which I think comes down to how structured the football is."

It's just the latest piece of criticism to hit the beleagured Hasler, with head conditioner Donny Singe leaving the club this week.

Hasler couldn't attend a press conference on Saturday morning, with assistant Jim Dymock stepping in. Dymock, who had a brief stint in the gig back in 2011, said he'd be ready to step in on a fulltime basis if Hasler is shown the door.

News also broke on Saturday that prop James Graham had officially signed with the Dragons.

Hurry up Chris and get rid of this mercenary!

Most intelligent people were in agreement with Anderson. Unfortunately a handful of morons thought that it would great idea to sign foran on a million dollars.. and even more unfortunately, those same morons were signing the cheques at the time

F me, he’s not ‘broken’ mentally. I have issue with that.
People go through highs and lows, some people are more sensitive so the lows hit harder. This is Foran, this is me, alot of people, whoever. But not broken. Just needs timeout. Talent shines through and it’s just whether Foran picks himself up.
If it’s kong term injury related ohysically. This is different. I’d he cant recover then he’s just a has been. Plain and simple.

Is Anderson making the recruitment decisions now? If so maybe we won’t make such blunders in the future

Makes some good points, I can’t disagree with him. Before he arrived a lot said it wasn’t the correct move an he would not last.

And I thought clubs did a full medical examination of a player before signing the player...I'll be damned !!!
If it wasn't done it opens up a lot of possibilities...Medical retirement ect...

Not with Des. It's friendships first, club second.

That's the talk. Hopefully the club has some sort of recruitment committee coming together where they look after the bulk of our player incomings and goings while managing the cap. We can't have the Hasler disaster ever happening again.

In all honesty I'd prefer Chris either be involved in the recruitment OR a Director.... not both.

There is contention at the moment as to if he has elected himself as the clubs Recruitment Manager, or if perhaps the lines are getting blurred in the media (because Anderson runs his own Recruitment Firm - outside of Rugby League and his duties to the club).

If he has elected himself as the clubs Recruitment Manager, I have a real problem with this (in addition to his son being an up and coming coach). In the past we (the club) got themselves into trouble giving family members jobs (rather than getting the right people for the job), and it appears it may be starting to happen again.

If anything the club should be moving heaven and earth to try and snag Mulholland or someone like him, to work alongside Warren McDonnell. Have McDonnell focus on the younger grades (say SG/HMatts), and let another recruitment specialist travel abroad and stuff to seek new talent in Fiji, regional NSW/QLD/etc, England Super League, NZ, PNG, Tonga, etc, to pick up and slot players into relevant grades.

THIS would have us a powerhouse again far sooner I feel.

Foran should be made to sit out the remainder of the year and give him about a 7 month break. Either way we will be paying his salary anyway and if it's up to him he will be here for another two or three seasons whether we like it or not because of the big dollars his on. Would you leave? No. So we have to do what we can to get him right and a lengthy break with even surgery may be what he needs and what we need to get him playing to a standard we all expect.

This is crazy... Too much knee jerking decisions.
Our attack went sidewards because of Josh Reynold's so everyone said we needed Foran to straighten the attack. Rubbish... All we needed was Reynolds gone and the signing of a reasonable fit half.
Foran should be able to fix his body but needs to do the extra's in physio, training and strength work. It's up to him now whether he turns it around or is retired.

I would do this. And if he isnt right by the end of the year, i would sack him, and pay him out outside the cap. Take a financial bullet off the cap, to get a lot more wriggle room in our cap. If Foran can find his old self i am happy to keep him, we need a half who is like he used to be. But if not, he will hold the side back for 2 years if we dont release him. And we need to do it in time to get someone decent in for the full offseason. A lot of the expense of paying Foran outside the cap will be offset by more merch sales and bums on seats at games, if we are more successful. Less than 7000 at Belmore pretty much says it all.
