The 2 are completely unrelated.
Nothing wrong with Gus sorting out our juniors pathways.

But that doesn't hide from the fact that the recruitment over the last few years for our first grade team has provided a negative return.

We've made poor acquisition choices for no improvement. We've spent all our SC and have signed on big money contracts for way too long.

And that's all on Gus and TB and CC.

You can hide behind the mask all you want but you can't fool me
They are largely unrelated, not completely unrelated. The problem with recruitment from outside is that it doesn't work like SC. It is not as simple as offering someone what they are worth and they join your club. We got the players that we got in the last 3 seasons because they were the ones that looked at Belmore and said "yeah ok". With some players you could offer them overs by $250k and they will still say no, for whatever reason they just don't want to be here. The same basic process meant we ended up with JAC, Burton, Waddell, Sutton, TPJ, Perham, etc, and didn't end up with SJ, Hunt, Latrell, and who knows who else. We all know how Gus operates, he spends time to be in contact with players from across the sport. It is only ever possible to recruit players who want to be here.

The players who come into the system as 14, 15, 16, 17 year olds and make their way up the system until they are challenging for NRL honours are more likely to stick around for reasonable coin. Penrith is the current ongoing example of how maintaining a strong junior system for 10+ years ends up being a major benefit to your NRL team.

Not arguing those points Marly, just pointing out why Bennett has been successful in a short period of time.
Bennett gets the basics right. Signing experienced Hardened towards was the key, with skill and speed in areas where they can capitalise on the go forward momentum. But forwards win matches and we have a weak ass pack.

Gus is a flog he has gone out making many of his own signings and the majority have been flops including the coach

And which ‘non-flops’ wanted to come to the dogs that Gus did not want to sign?

It isn't Des' fault Dib and Castle told him to recruit to a salary cap that didn't exist yet. People like to make jokes of Des' back ended contracts but it wouldn't of been an issue if the salary cap eventuated to what he was told to recruit to. Dib and Castle signed off on contracts to meet the "new" salary cap (ended up being much less). I'd put more blame on the Anderson's for their contribution after the fact than Des. It's also way too long ago to still be blaming people involved from that era (Des' Dog days).
Des Hasler didn’t
Give a rates arise about our juniors.look at how many left because he wasn’t giving them an opportunity.

Absolutely

And you can bet your bottom dollar Gusses big dollar marquee man next year will be a flop also. S. Crichton to 850k centre who we might manufacture into an average fullback

And if you give him a chance =Gus lover

That's TK for you...
Fair assumption when fans still have a hard on for him after almost 2 years of absolute misery across the board. It was a near impossible task to take us further backwards and he’s managed to do so

The salary cap isn't an excuse anymore. The reality is that we just haven't nailed our key signings.

Instead of signing a halfback we sign a centre and some kids. Instead of signing a fullback we again sign another centre and some reserve grader hoping to strike gold. Instead of signing some props we sign a luxury edge forward.

We just haven't focused our resources in the right areas and it's as simple as that.
A friendly advise mate, don't believe everything reported about contracts value and supposedly promised positions,
Contrary to what is reported Gus and the management are tirelessly working on signing the needed players especially first class halfback and forwards, the problem who is available ?
Introducing the Dolphins didn't/doesn't help either.
Don't forget we are stuck with old contracts before Gus and CC arrivals worth 2.5 - 3 million dollars.

He is right isn't he?

Des and the dumb ***** in the board did fuck us and set us back years
It is obvious that some fans including many on TK don't realise that when the club is at the very bottom like us and the Tigers, good players just don't want to come to the club, that's the reason why we and the tigers made endless panic decissions and signed players hoping that the player will work out.
Someone should make a list to duds who were signed by our club for big money and have been total failures.
Both Hasler and Cleal were allowed to do what they wanted, and managed to do a lot of damage, and after they left even, juniors were reluctant to come to our club, because of the position we were in.
the stigma of been so far down hasen't disipated yet IMHO

Our reserve grade team won the comp in 2018 and other coaches/staff are also responsible for juniors/pathways.

Blaming Hasler, Cleal, Castle etc was acceptable up until around 2020/21. It’s no longer an excuse Kelp.

100% I still can’t get over Eastwood earning 900k
The reason he got 900k was because he was on unders the years before. Eastwood won us a preliminary final vs south's.

Everyone blames des but he fucken came close to winning a comp. Sure he back ended contracts but had he won 1 of those grandfinals no one would care.
