I'm sure if I fished around through threads from the 2023 season I'd be able to find a handful of people who are crying foul that Alamoti is a panther now who were saying he'd never be good enough to be a reliable centre. But the simple fact is that Xerri and Chrichton got us to our first finals match in nearly a decade. Alamoti and Averillo barely kept us just clear of last place with a f/a of -331.
I know I thought he had a future but had been promoted into a team that wasn't performing. Nobody looked incredible in last year's team if we're honest. I think I even said I'd have liked him kept for depth as well as Averillo. But Averillo took a number of years to have 1 reliable season and Alamoti started really well and then looked a bit poor once the self belief declined last year.
But you could safely bet either testicle on the fact that this forum only judges players we don't retain on their best 10 games for opposition clubs, while they'll judge them on their worst 10 games in our jersey. It's inevitable and it annoys the living shit out of me.
And I'd bet if I spoke to 20 fans from every other NRL club, they'd have a few examples of players they think their club should've kept. The Titans would probably like Sexton back. The Panthers would probably like Kikau, Burton and Crichton back. The Warriors would probably like Curran back, the list would be extensive.
But the nature of the game is that the powers that be at every club decide how best to spend the cap. They'll let good players go and recruit good players. They'll keep crap players and sign crap players. In the end we're just passengers. I'm not trying to stop people discussing things. But it gets pretty frustrating that there's generally a handful of people who specialise in kicking the dirt on this forum.
