Paul Alamoti (Canterbury)

Get excited long-suffering Canterbury fans, this kid can play.

Built in the same mould as Matt Utai but with the strength of Sonny Bill Williams, Alamoti is an explosive centre that dominated the Harold Matthews ranks last season.

He regularly ran over opponents with his raw strength to help the Bulldogs progress to the grand final before losing to Newcastle.

Alamoti was rewarded with selection in the Harold Matthews representative team.
Beat young talent at the club

Please don’t be another Konrad Hurrell or Greg Leleisiuao from Parra! All hype in the lower grades but cant be consistent in 1st grade.

Iv seen Alamoti play a lot - extremely dominant with and without the ball. He has been playing centre - would be just as effective as a backrower - where he ends up will depend a lot on whether he grows more height wise or width wise.

Looks to me more like in the Tim Lafai mode than Matt Utai. He’s got good footwork and a strong fend. Can break tackles.

There's a long way to go from Harold Matthews to the NRL. I've got a cousin who was touted as a future NRL star until he stopped growing after hitting about five and a half feet tall. Once upon a time talent was enough to make it into professional league. Nowadays it's getting harder for players to make it if they're on the smallish side.

Hopefully we see a lot of good juniors filtering into the reserve grade side over the next year or two.
