His father Matt spoke with the media up in Mackay. Pat had surgery on Sunday night which went well. He's in good spirits considering. Due to have follow up X- Rays this afternoon to gauge how long for rehab. At this stage, specialists are saying 6 months.

I had the exact same injury a few years back. The toughest thing is the ligament damage that has to happen in order for an ankle to completely dislocate.
I was able to make it back in the same season with only 2 physio visits per week for the last two games so with all the facilities he has access to you'd think he'd be ok by next season.
Good luck Pat

Funny the short degrees in seperation . I know a good mate of Pat's father , apparently he was a former star player in the old qld cup . They were mates from the Bundaberg area . He is now the principal of a top school and said he has never seen a pay packet like Pat has ............

Get well soon Patty

Kind of irrelevant question, but was the tackle really that massive which ended up in such a terrible compund fracture and dislocation of ankle at the same time?

I bet pat would ve gone through millions of similar tackles or harder in the past.

Yow Yeh's was worse as the bone came out of the skin.

Pat's the bone stayed under the skin, but the angle was nasty.

JYY is still one of the worst sports injuries I've seen.

They said pat suffered a compound fracture. I always thought a compound fracture is when the bone breaks the skin??

Also, if you wanna check out a worse sport injury, google Paul George and Kevin Ware. Both ten time worse than yow yeh

Compound fracture

If a broken bone has been exposed to the outside, either by a cut over the fracture or by bone sticking out through the skin, it is called an open fracture. This used to be referred to as a compound fracture.

Severe twisting injuries to the ankle can result in fractures of the tibia or fibula near or within the ankle joint.

A horrible injury of which the worst ive suffered is badly sprained ankles and those alone are not fun. (Crutches for 4 weeks , then walking with a limp and now I roll my ankke when I accidently step unevenly on an ant. Lol. Embarrassing and could lead to other hip injury for me later in life due to the damaged ligaments I have. Jeez I salute yy and hanlon and wish him all the best in his recovery. Will be alot of pysio to get through but also the mental self doubts and worry too when up back and running.

The good thing is you dont get to where he is by doubting yourself. Ill back him through it. Would be a tough sob!
