Bulldogs

2005 was a tough campaign for the Bulldogs, with the team finishing out of the semi finals. Bring on the 2006 NRL!.

The Canterbury Bulldogs, a proud and historic Rugby League Club often given the tag of 'The Family Club' have performed extremely well since their relocation to Sydney Olympic Park where they play their home game fixtures at both Telstra Stadium and Sydney Showground. From 1999 – 2005 the Bulldogs have a 63.04% and 70.31% winning percentage at Telstra Stadium and the Sydney Showground respectively. With their highly talented squad, large supporter base and world-class home venues there is no wonder why the Blue and Whites were the 2004 Premiers.

I don't care if we have a 100% winning record at the Showground but that place is one of the worst stadium I've ever been to and doesn't even compare to Telstra. The players are about 100m away, there's no atmosphere as the fans are too scattered and in many parts of the stadium you can't even see the screen. During video ref decision you just gotta wait for the fans that can see the screen to either cheer or boo in order to know if it was a try or not. I hate the place!

what's the point of this???
Point of this is that alot of our supporters dislike the showground, but stats show us that we win more games there than at telstra stadium.

To the contrary i infact like the ground. Atmosphere is heaps cool. When i think of atmoshpere i think of 2002 Broncos game RD 26. 20K in that ground is a full house of dogs supporters cheering on their team. 20k at telstra is nothing.

I can only think of two flaws to the ground - one being the live screen. especially those who sit on the "hill" and those sitting next to it diagonally opposite the tunnel.

the other being those on the oppiste side of the tunnel are bit far from the action. but nothing changes at telstra stadium in this regard unless ur like at the front row.

However in saying all of this, MR R makes a very valid point in that bigger games are at telstra stadium and the lesser games played at showground.

BUT

Telstra is a more neutral ground to rival teams. Showground is a unique field that no teams share or play on in origin, semis and GF's. And since the showground is not big enough to cater for rival fans, a sea of 20k blue and white fans in a full-capacity atmosphere is electrifying.......that goes for any game.

I would rather they play at Aussie Stadium than watch it at the Showground.

The fact that we now play better performing teams at Telstra and lesser teams at the Showground probably best explains the difference in percentages.

Although there is a **** viewing angle from pretty much anywhere u sit, I don't give a **** about "viewing angle", I just wanna cheer my fkn lungs out and make the stadium rumble....

If I wanted a "viewing angle" i'd watch on TV...

Do you remember the Showground Hazmak.. if I wanted to do that again, I'd watch the ants in my backyard.. I can at least see what is going on there.

- You can see nothing, the fans are so far away we couldn't scream our support out if we had a megaphone, the screen is in one spot and if you are infront of it you may as well go outside as you will miss the game... and the field was an aweful mess... the deadball lines were different every game.

So to respond NO TO THE SHOWGROUND EVER... :grinning:

Compared to Telstra, I'd prefer the Showground ..... they served VB.

I remember the showground, but I only went to about 8 games there (As I came back to Australia in July 03).

Maybe I was just stoked to go to a doggies game, that I didn't care at the time...

That said, I hate how Telstra is always so quiet, and we can't win a game there to save our lives...
