Why are you surprised?

How many active Kennelers these days even knew the 90's or 80's Bulldogs? I'm willing to bet less than half.

More like 20% - 30%
Fair point. Though Mason was much better.

Well of course everybody is going to vote SBW, he just had natural abilities, but as someone mentioned before he just had nothing between the ears.

Darren SMith for me was an all rounder footballer, disappointed when he left us in 94. His brother Jason is a close second.

We've been blessed with some great second-rowers.
Very true

I'd say Steve Reardon "the axe", no nonsene second rower and used to chop em down all day long and occassionly had a big hit in him, like when he pole axed andrew gee up at suncorp stadium once, and was a very loyal servent to our club. Would take a player like him any day over a $$$BW
i wouldn't say Steve Reardon was the glue that held the team together, but over the years I saw him play he was consistantly the best defender I've seen. And that includes Steve Folkes. IMO if Reardon was around now he would be in the run on side, the style of defence he had can't be coached. You've either got it or you haven't.

And we won how many comps with Reardon in the team?
One player doesn't win a premiership. But he did play first grade in 1994 and 1998 when we were runner up and played one first grade game in 1995 when we were premiers :yo:

When a poll starts with "our", I am presuming loyalty, legacy and pride. Also, that for a good and memorable period this player gave the people at this club a great amount of joy. A warm and fuzzy feeling when we reflect.

5 candidates here might make a "most talented" or "w@nker" poll but not "our best".
Replace those who shouldn't be in "our best" might a better poll?

Steven Price
Steve Reardon
Robert Relf
Jamie Feeney
Greg Eastwood

None of these guys have or have yet let the fans or club down while they were or are with us.

They're "ours".

Have fun!

Finally, a thread where I can legitimately vote for SBW.

Pricey did play second row early in his career...didn't he play 2nd row in the 94 and 95 gfs?
But you would say predominately he was a prop, and his rep career was mainly played at prop?

Yes, I would...but he did play 2nd row in a premiership winning side....not saying he is our best 2nd rower...just being pedantic really :P

Our best second-rower of the past 20 years?
Willie Mason i reckon he was in form with the Dogz, even SBW was good but dogged us hard in 2008 especially that was the time we needed him..
I can even say Andrew Ryan becuase he was a good player back in the days even in that try saving tackle against roosters in GF..
Soo ill go 4 Willie Mason and Andrew Ryan

if we're serious then it's SBW - for out and out skill and ability to change/control a game

followed by jason smith who was one of the best 'true' footballers to play at the Club imo
I agree with you on Jason Smith, very clever player indeed!!!

Voted Jason Smith.

Steve Reardon is one of my favourite Dogs players, cut down by injury just as he was really starting to fire. Certainly one of the best clubmen the Dogs have had.

I'm basically putting together a greatest ever team of the past 20 years. Price can't be in 2 positions in the team.

If you include the 80's - I'd take Cement over SBW ANY day.

SBW is much better than Gillespie either way.
