Frustration is growing among club land over the NRL’s apparent reluctance to censor Canterbury Bulldogs general manager and Channel Nine commentator Phil Gould for his comments on key issues within the game.
As someone who sits alongside Gould on 100% Footy, his opinions are often polarising. It makes for excellent television. He provides Nine, the publisher of this masthead, plenty of content and drives a lot of traffic to the network whether you agree or disagree with his views.
However, there are some clubs complaining about perceived double standards from the NRL, who hold the coaches to account over their comments on a weekly basis.
Phil Gould implored Joseph Suaalii to leave the NRL immediately after signing a multimillion-dollar contract to switch codes at the end of next year.

There are some clubs who want Gould and the Bulldogs to face breach notices for some of the things he says both in the media and on social media. Gould did not respond to requests for comment.

The NRL is aware of the angst among the clubs and pressure is mounting on NRL chief executive Andrew Abdo and ARLC chairman Peter V’landys to intervene.
They have heard the whispers from clubs who believe head office is too afraid of Gould, one of the most influential men in the sport, to sanction him.
Several complaints have been made. Rival clubs have been recording the comments, and screenshotting social media posts with the aim of presenting it to the NRL if they try to fine one of their coaches for comments they deem inappropriate.

Gus Gould has responded to Trent Robinson's comments, telling Gus to 'relax' and claiming Gus of being 'fearful'
There are several conflicts of interest in the media. The Melbourne Storm last year complained about accredited player agent Braith Anasta, who they believed was inflating the price of his client Cameron Munster through comments and opinions aired on Fox Sports’ NRL 360.

NRL rules prohibit club employees from publicly criticising registered officials within the game. That doesn’t appear to be of concern to the NRL.
Of greater concern is when Gould passes judgment on live investigations, as he did after the Good Friday game when Bulldogs back-rower Jacob Preston was sin-binned and placed on report for an alleged hip-drop tackle. The NRL declined to comment.
The NRL has to decide if this is a fight worth picking. When a war of words erupted between Gould and Roosters coach Trent Robinson a few weeks ago over Joseph Suaalii’s place in the game, the Bulldogs supremo declared “I fear no one” on his Six Tackles with Gus podcast. His comments of late seem to back that up.

Pretty hard for the NRL to prove Gus is making comments as a Bulldogs rep and not Channel Nine commentator so they can f..k off !!
It doesn't help us tho if NRLol Admin and Refs take it personally and our Club get the rough end of the pineapple.

We know how biased they are to criticism.

Gus should concentrate all his time and efforts in getting this club off it's knees instead of acting like the village idiot in all his media appearances. The club is paying him $1 million a season FFS. Start earning it.

but theSouth’s coach and captain in the press conference after the game can? Calling out dogs players before the match committee reviews the game?

You don’t think our junior pathways are showing promise? Look at lower grades results so far this year.

Sounds like there are some sandy vaginas within that article. Too many flogs involved in the game that have turned into butthurt soyboys. Mean Mr Gould said some words, boo hoo! Fuck the NRLol.

He is earning it. He can't help a spate of injuries to key players.

Man is entitled to his opinions. All the commentators have them. John's never stops dribbling shit.

I imagine the Roosters are the only club that has made this complaint. Potentially Souths as well with Gus' comments regarding Demetriou. Either way, if the clubs don't want to put their names to it then who cares. The NRL don't care about it, so why should anyone else?

Poor Trent Robinson threw his toys out the cot when Gus responded to his sly comments. I think he needs to focus more on coaching lol looks like his team needs it.

I didn't mention what's working and what's not but i could. Like the fact he's left gaping holes in the current roster even excluding injuries. Who knows how much better he might be if he was fully focused on the job he's getting paid elite money for?

Chammas off Gus' christmas card list lol
They actually do not get along at all in RL.

You should see Chammas’ texts to Gus whenever Michael is after some information or to confirm something he heard.

Gus legit leaves him on “read”. No response ever. Funny as hell

Difference between Gould and Johns is Gould can string a legitimate sentence together that makes an actual point.

Sorry, I forgot. Trent can only coach a team thats 6mil above the cap. Really hard for him to coach winners being only 2mil above the cap these days.

Lodge - Convicted criminal
Crichton - drug addict and alleged woman basher
BSmith - drug addict
Tedesco - Racist

Anyway, the point is, Roosters should focus on their own team and culture. Doesn't look too good at the moment.

Does the R in NRL stand for Russia? If not, then people like Gus should be able to say what they want. If this came from souths or roosters they can get f$%ked. Always dobbing in others when they don't like something.. I couldn't think of another coach or club that would care.. you really want an environment where bullshit can't be called out?? Fmd
